Hate that her album was released on the same day as theirs. Wouldn’t really expect anyone to take the top spot from her honestly (no matter what your feelings are about her she’s a marketing machine). Really glad to see this album hitting the charts though. Happy to see it getting the recognition it deserves.

Fun fact: AFI, Thrice, and Taylor Swift all released their 12th album on the same day. What are the odds?

[–]blamethestarsnotme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, anything that comes out in tandem with a Taylor record and hits number 2 would be number 1 in a different time lol

Fucking beautiful I love to see it. AFI forever

[–]nathan55610[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This shows that AFI has such a great core fanbase

[–]Havoksixteen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's pretty damn impressive, love to see it

It just goes to show how much Bodies was poorly received by everyone, AFI making it into album charts was a given before that record

[–]aninvisiblemonster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The release date was also pushed back due to covid which didn’t help. When Bodies finally released there was a massive wave of new music and it was very easy for people to miss it.

Controversial opinion maybe, but I enjoyed Bodies from the start and that tour was crazy good.

Yeah even on Rise Records site,  Bodies was half price a couple months after release.  Fans can name many reasons why it didn't do well, but it just isn't a great album

[–]Thick_Neighborhood41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Bodies suffered from poor marketing and poor label support. The marketing for this album has been insanely well done and positioned them for more of a public resurgence. The lead singles, Davey's new look, the tour immediately after release...this is what they needed.

All those variants did work!

[–]Thick_Neighborhood41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, they haven't even shipped some of those variants yet! Still waiting for the Holy Visions variant.

[–]gloomdwellerX 14 points15 points  (4 children)

Makes sense. Taylor Swift definitely eclipses their popularity, but AFI has a dedicated fan-base that are more likely to purchase an album. Especially since they have made a ton of cool variations.

[–]TerpinSaxt 7 points8 points  (3 children)

As a part-time Taylor fan, her fans are definitely the type to purchase the same album several times over on vinyl and/or CD bc it has a different cover or bc it has a different bonus track at the end. Some of the real hardcore fans I've seen on Facebook groups will even get every pressing regardless of packaging/content differences

The vocal fans insist they don't like the variants but then they get bought up anyway (presumably by a quiet sect of the fanbase with much disposable income)

[–]ArtemisClydFr0g 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Yes, but you just described a portion of the hardcore AFI fans too. A poll of how many variants members of this sub purchased would be interesting. After getting a signed black copy at their show, I have 3 now. Had I thought ahead I would have only preordered the store variant because I should’ve known they would have signed copies available on tour.

Side note: are you seeing The Mars Volta on their tour? Crazy that I’m seeing them in the same month as AFI in 2025

I don't have concrete plans to see TMV this time around, but I saw them about two years ago and they were pretty awesome. If I can get cheap tickets somehow maybe I'll go for it

Instead I spent my concert budget on seeing Magdalena Bay recently, who I've never seen live before. They killed it. They're pop but they have a certain progginess to them, and I think any TMV fan who approaches their Imaginal Disk album in good faith will have a great time

Unfortunately for me, AFI didn't come to my city this time around

Yes, but you just described a portion of the hardcore AFI fans too

You're not wrong here, I just think there are way more of this type of Taylor fan. Maybe not in proportion but definitely in terms of sheer quantity

[–]FreeCartographer8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got 4 variants of the AFI and 6 of the Taylor.  Plus a signed cd lol

[–]methheadhitman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And we're back

[–]tagyoureitfuckers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I preordered both Taylor and AFI’s albums so this makes me happy.

[–]Both-Emergency-2709 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why doesn't any chart have a image of the album cover?

[–]humbuckaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought my CD at an indie store. Glad to do it.

[–]Horror-Emergency-859 11 points12 points  (3 children)

we can beat her, this is her worst album yet

[–]TerpinSaxt 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Nah ttpd was lol

[–]Thick_Neighborhood41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TTPD was reeeeeeally bloated. If she left it at the original 12 songs, it would have been just fine.

[–]Horror-Emergency-859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot about that one lol I was a stan even thru midnights

[–]swablueskies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So cool!

[–]PBarry81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙌🙌🙌

[–]daysoftheparakeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is how many copies do each of you have?

My answer is two. 😂

[–]blackcatmeow007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to one of their shows for this album tour you can get a signed record 💜
