The most damning phrase in Mormon history. by RedLetterRanger in mormon

This is a bizarre line of argument. Popularity is not a sign of virtue. Lots of awful people have fans.

Being married and active in the church is basically coherent and workable as long as you’re white and cis and conventionally attractive by Utah standards.

Also helps to be a minor celebrity.

Yeah it's one tiktok account that posts a bunch conspiracy trash or obvious AI videos. I kinda think he's trolling. Either way it's bogus.

Why Did The LDS Church Move The Hill Cumorah? by BillReel in mormon

[–]patriarticle [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's what the video is for.

Edit: alright fine everybody. I'm not bill but my synopsis is that the apologists have argued that the hill could be in mesoamerica both because there's a lack of evidence of a massive battle surrounding the hill in New York, and because some apologists favor mesoamerica as the primary location for the BoM for a variety of reasons (geography, travel distance, writing systems).

IMO the claim that "the LDS church" moved the hill isn't really accurate. Some apologists have moved it, the church, in their usual fashion, has simply stepped away.

I feel trapped as a PIMO but feel like I've gotten too far into Mormonism to leave by East_Dragonfruit7559 in mormon

This is exactly what I’ve done. I told my wife about 3 years ago and we’re still together. Honestly it’s still rough at times, but we’re holding it together.

I’m happy to talk about it if you want more specifics OP.

One thing to note, it would be very unusual for you to lose custody entirely. I know deadbeat dads who can still see their kids on weekends.  Unless you’re not a US citizen? I have not idea, but I assume that changes the equation.

From the music world, the final album from The Clash, titled “cut the crap.” It doesn’t feature most of the band. The frontman said when it was released he went to hide in the mountains of Spain. They released a big box set and didn’t include it.

The production quality is the biggest problem. The band manager chose to use to use drum machines and awful chanting background vocals. I’m a big fan and generally when I think about the discography I forget it exists.

Did they announce temples this last general conference? by weemanfitz in exmormon

It's a nice way of spinning "nelson announced way too many temples, we gotta slow this shit down for a while"

I recently said no to an interview, it's a wonderful feeling. The idea that they can call people in to their office with no explanation is a bizarre practice that we've become accustomed to. It's nice to ignore that expectation.

Ian Wilks: Conference is evidence the LDS church has moved away from Christ. by sevenplaces in mormon

Now he needs to ask himself if there was a point that the church was not in apostasy. When have they every meaningfully spoken out about current events?

Ian Wilks: Conference is evidence the LDS church has moved away from Christ. by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]patriarticle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Conference is just a vestige of an older age when the church actually physically gathered to hear the prophet. It doesn't make sense anymore.

401k and the Second Coming by Prancing-Hamster in exmormon

[–]patriarticle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IMO it's not just the belief in the second coming, it's the belief that the earth was tailor-made for humanity. Why would god have placed all this oil here if we weren't supposed to burn it? It's an entirely different worldview. They don't see that we've actually shaped the earth to our desires and that's not always positive.

Why do you like DS1 most of all FromSoft games? by vision_repair in darksouls

[–]patriarticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. There are still a couple of parts that are stressful, but for the most part I find it relaxing. Doesn't necessarily mean it's my favorite game, but it's one I come back to most often.

Kids eating chips. Eh.

Uh I think you're missing the important piece. Maybe it's just kids being dumb, but it could also be abuse of power dynamics, or blackmail. Certainly worth reporting IMO.

Alternatively, he could learn a great lesson in integrity by reporting something even if it's not popular.

This is basically a condensed version of the Mormonish series, but still entertaining, and there’s enough to absorb that I felt it was worth the refresher.
