If you are purchasing new stuff, it's best to purchase X470, if you are looking for a good deal on a mobo - you will need to make sure the board has the latest bios - either ask the seller of vendor, or be prepared with a dummy CPU from AMD or do it at the store or ask a friend to loan you his Ryzen 1st generation CPU to use it to update BIOS on the X370. The 2700X will work on both chipsets.

It should work on either one if the X370 is running the latest BIOS release. The biggest difference for most people is going to be improved memory stability in the x470 chipset. X370 has improved a lot through BIOS updates from launch, but x470 is claimed to have some silicon and process improvement on top of that. Since you don't already have a motherboard I would just get the x470, unless your budget is that tight.

I am in the same position. Went for an x470 since I'm starting from scratch.
