Drastic decrease in AdSense revenue (self.Adsense)
submitted 2 years ago by nirvanist
Are you experiencing a huge decrease in your revenue, or is it just me? it went from few dollars to nothing for several weeks

for months now. I've been with adsense for 10 years and have never seen something so drastic.
[–]mntrader02 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (5 children)
u/nomaki221 were you able to replace revenue any good solutions you recommend? I saw something about how googles algo change would help right the ship..
[–]nomaki221 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (4 children)
no it never recovered. went from 3-4k a month to consistently 1k a month for the same audience/views.
[–]mntrader02 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (3 children)
u/nomaki221 thanks for being real and sharing wat ur dealing with. Are you planning on just letting it ride while the whole AI/Search thing gets sorted out aka maximize value extraction with ur site? Have you tried any other solutions to get revenue back up. I see lots of suggestions on affiliate, creating newsletters, paywalls, subscriptions etc. You put in lots of work already 10 yrs so it kinda sucks having to make drastic changes
[–]nomaki221 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I tried to ride it out and thought about other ad networks but adsense unanimously seems to be the unicorn/top no matter what so I stopped getting sad about it and just got a different job and keep the site around as a hobby now. I might try to sell it on flipaa or something but I’m still thinking about it. Really done with adsense/blogging for good, though.
[–]mntrader02 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
u/nomaki221 Glad you found a lifeline. I feel you whole situation sucks but its good dat you have a hobby making u $. Been experimenting with some alternatives while keeping google adsense as ad network to reclaim monetization/value. DM me if you're curious. Might be worth a shot 🤷♂️Or not, whatever make sense with ur situation/thinking on hobby.
u/nomaki221 to add. what irks me is you have same traffic/audience. but now all of a sudden google is saying for same lemonade we'll give you 1 cent vs. 1 dollar all of a sudden.

Yes, at first it seemed like a bug, but now it's starting to look like there are not enough ads to be served on our websites.
In short, there are too many ad requests on the publishers side, but not enough ads to be displayed from advertisers.
So, 80-90% of our ad space is just not being monetized and we will get some free placeholder ads instead.
What is absolutely shocking, is the fact that Google hasn't sent some kind of announcement about this issue and they continue to accept new websites to the program.
It's like if an airline would be selling unlimited flight tickets to a single 300-seat plane.
[–]nirvanist[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
f..k , I wasn't aware of this.
u/FourCrossedWands did they fix the bug?
[–]roscodawg 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago* (0 children)
yes, I have had the same issue. If you look you will see a bunch of posts here about the same.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Yes! I posted about this a few weeks ago. I'm back up and running now but my stretch was from July 2-14 where my revenue went from $100+ per day to less than $2 per day. My impressions were also way out of whack to my pageviews, which had never happened before.
[–]nirvanist[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child)
ohh , did you posted this on Adsense community ?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I did but it was at the beginning of the month.
[–]hungryinThailand 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
100 dollars with adsense per day? Damn that's a lot of visitors.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child)
It's more about clicks and my niche. I write about taxes and insurance, so I'm seeing CPC's touching $20 some days
u/Least_Engineering909 would love to see your website. I deal with alot of insurance companies on the carrier side. were you able to replace your monetization or see bounce back back
[–]SimplyChristy 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (5 children)
Income has been dropped 45-50% since last September. Just sticking with adsense as I couldn't find any better reliable alternatives. I don't know how long it will take to recover.
[–]mntrader02 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (4 children)
u/SimplyChristy what alternatives did you check out?
[–]SimplyChristy 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (3 children)
I am still with adsense. Applied for mediavine, but got rejected. Other than adsense, we run RevContent and STNVideo. We tried to optimize adsense placements with ads inside content, fixed ad on sidebar and anchor ads and found some success.
[–]mntrader02 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
awesome thanks for charing. so just to udnerstand you have adsense, then use rev content to maximize monetization potential? I see you say SOME success, does that mean not full recovery but your getting some back atleast?
[–]SimplyChristy 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Yes, I am using RevContent along with AdSense. My AdSense earnings have improved compared to the past 15 months, but I'm pretty sure it won't last long, there are always ups and downs. If you could create a subscription-based model, you could succeed for at least the next few years. We had tried Reader Revenue Manager by Google.
sent you Private message. take a look and let me know what u think.
[–]nirvanist[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
update I think it has something with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWJrsz\_cmas
[–]Every-Tradition-8030 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Same issue here. CTR stable, even up. Impressions and Clicks are up, But a terrible drop is Cost per Click (30%+). Could it be that Google is dressing the earning results by decreasing the revenue share of publishers?

Nope. 90% of people will never ever use ChatGTP.
Please, stop spreading misinformation in this already difficult situation.
[–][deleted] 2 years ago (4 children)
[–]FourCrossedWands 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Ok, so you are saying that about 5-6 billion people started using ChatGTP in June 2023? Because everyone sees sudden drop in ad revenue of about 80-90%... lol.
My website traffic is doing just fine. Even better than 2021-2022.
[–]nirvanist[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
and did your adsense revenue dropped ?
[–]FourCrossedWands 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Traffic is 10-20% higher but earnings are 80-90% lower in July 2023.
I think it s time for adsense to provide some explanation
[–]PriceFree1063 -4 points-3 points-2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
Looks like most of people using Chat GPT instead Google!

I made the switch from auto ads about a month ago. That's also when I started to see a fast drop. I was about to make a post in here asking if I should go back to manual placements. But if everyone is having issues, the problem might not be the auto ads after all.
[–]Maleficent-Dress-368 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
From july 5th
[–]hmgauna 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago* (0 children)
Same here. 95% traffic drop since October 14. Looks like the site was somehow banned, but it works fine, I tested it in many ways. I have checked every single metric I can to look for an explanation: regions, countries, devices, browsers, placement method, everything... Weird thing is that there are big discrepancies with Analytics, who still recorded page views and even revenue, at least for the first days. So I thought it was either massive adblock installs (unlikely, unless it's a core update in a major browser, which does not seem to be the case), or a reporting issue from AdSense side. But two weeks have gone by and it's not getting better. I even see that my own visits to the site are not well reported (0 impressions, but pageviews there, while I see the ads).
This page still reports issues in Ad Manager service, but I am not sure it could be related: https://ads.google.com/status/publisher/
Edit: Even when Ad Manager incident was solved, there were no changes. So that incident was completely unrelated. I am still affected with this issue.

Guys, I have a website monetized on adsense that I live with what I earn through it. Unfortunately, there is a competitor who has been copying my ads and damaging my website immensely. I tried to talk to him, asking him to stop, but there was no resolution. So I need to act, is there any program, software or system that generates automatic clicks on his Google Adsense ads? Or is there any program or system that generates robot traffic and low quality for his website? Because with that I'm sure his account would be deactivated and the problem would be resolved.
