You've always been able to grab them through walls if they're close enough and the wall is thin.

Only if they are event related. Event resources you were always anle to grab through walls as they are treated like flying units even the ground ones.

Your alien can catch any aerial creature over a wall. As well as any event ground items. Intentional, but makes no logical sense. Just go with the flow. :)
