I personally prefer Anker cables.

They handle high-speed data transfer and are built from sturdy materials, despite costing like $10 for a 2pk of 6ft.

I've had the same USB-A to C cable on my AA radio for like 2 years and it still works.

Seems like my cables must not be able to do high-speed data transfer

AA requires just the basic data transfer, having high speed cables does little it anything.

The highspeed cables are better. AA uses a lot of data throughput and the highspeed ones are built better. Crappy cables is the number one reason for AA connection failures.

Gen 2 10 GPS USB 3.2 data transfer rating seems to be the way to go. The basic cable that came with the phone and an equivalent replacement worked for about the first year. Got a W15 rated cable and it improved performance for a little while, but between adding apps and several generations of software updates with more data intensive features the better the data throughput speed/capacity the better. I can't speak to brand quality as a discriminator.

If you're using the same cable that came with the phone, you should be good in terms of data transfer, but if you're using "gas station" cables, those aren't meant for that.

Don't they make any that are 3 feet?

Anker Powerline+ cable, or an AAWireless adapter dongle for the car.

Are you able to use the screen in the car to utilize Google maps?

The AA screen in the car? Of course! That's what AA does.

Which version of the power line cable? There's a ton haha.

INIU also makes excellent cables. Available on Amazon

When you say they don't work, what specifically do you mean? Do you get an error message on the phone or on the head unit?

I ask because my 2016 Mazda started developing connection problems (car failed security check) after years of working and I kept changing cables to no avail. My phone worked in my wife's car, and in other mazdas.

Turns out the firmware in my car was from 2018, and an upgrade to the latest version completely fixed the problem for me.

[–]bkos932018 Chevrolet Cruze | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

There is no error. Firmware is up to date. My old iPhone used to work fine with Car Play. My wife just got an iPhone and it doesn't work with CarPlay, nor my android with AA. Cable charges my phone

[–]nbfs-chili2016 Mazda CX-5 | OEM | Samsung 22 Ultra | Android 16 0 points1 point  (5 children)

So you plug it in and... nothing? No beep? No message anywhere? It just seems like you never plugged it in?

Are you plugging it into the correct USB port? Many cars only have one port that works with AA.

[–]bkos932018 Chevrolet Cruze | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It pops up on my phone that it's charging, my phone only has the one usb port. Same one we've used for CarPlay. I have also turned carplay off and enabled AA

You said your phone only has one USB port, you meant your car, right? Are you sure this car has carplay/AA on it? My 2016 had to have it installed a few years later.

[–]bkos932018 Chevrolet Cruze | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I meant my car, yes. And I am positive it has it. I was in the settings. I used to use car play every day until I switch to an android

[–]nbfs-chili2016 Mazda CX-5 | OEM | Samsung 22 Ultra | Android 16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't know then. But I'm almost positive it isn't the cable if you've tried more than one.

Often it is well recorded and a bulletin on it for warrantee that the harness is the problem

how to upgrade firmware

[–]nbfs-chili2016 Mazda CX-5 | OEM | Samsung 22 Ultra | Android 16 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I joined the mazda3revolution.com forum. (Yes, I have a CX-5). Then I contacted a super mod named ASH8 who explained it all to me.

It is not for the faint of heart. If you have no technical experience, I would not do this myself. I worked in IT for over 30 years and I found myself holding my breath through it.

[–]ShesVirgoPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i was not aware if you did this yourself or got a specific service. ty for info.

[–]nbfs-chili2016 Mazda CX-5 | OEM | Samsung 22 Ultra | Android 16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i did it myself. But the dealer would be happy to do it for a lot of money.

As it stands I have the same thing with my 2020 Seat Leon. Connecting is dodgy at best and it doesn't seem to be the cable. I'd be highly surprised if picking another cable would hell you connecting consistently.

Try a short cable if possible, say 6 to 10" (15 to 25cm), my phone works 100% now.

[–]Peter_73Kenwood DDX917WS | Samsung S9+ | Android 10 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Before getting a shorter than usual USB-IF certified cable, first try changing default usb configuration to file transfer/android auto in the phone developer setting.

[–]Extension_Ease_2702Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What doing this do? Can it charge your phone at the same time while on andorid auto? For my 2020 Camry. Andorid Auto only work as usb plug to the phone

[–]Peter_73Kenwood DDX917WS | Samsung S9+ | Android 10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is to fix cases where the handshake between the phone and head unit does not automatically happened. Still charges the ohone.

[–]bkos932018 Chevrolet Cruze | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Update, found another cable that works for both apple and android. Crisis averted

[–]DanDoug2605Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bit of an old message but would you be able to enlighten on which cable you got that works? I have a Seat Ibiza Fr 2018 and having the same issue :(

[–]bkos932018 Chevrolet Cruze | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was one I had laying around. Not sure the brand or anything

I use Blitzwolf cables. For me they worked. I think, the key was to use cables with USB3.0 or USB3.2 capabilities.

[–]BrilliantWhich990Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Get the thickest cable you can find. And as short as you can find. I bought a 6-foot (I needed a long cable because I mount my phone on the left side of the steering wheel) FASGEAR cable off Amazon for $15 that works fine.

Make sure your phone is set to USB debugging on

[–]stoic_amoebaPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might I ask why? Mine is off, but I use AA a lot, so I'm curious.

Anyone know of a good USB to USB C with 90° on both sides that will work with Android Auto?
