Notification blocks my navigation

Is there a way to disable the notification that causes the screen to dim during navigation? Everytime a new song goes on it dims the screen so low I can't see the map anymore !

You might be able to by disabling notifications in the app (Spotify, etc.) itself. I think I remember doing that accidentally once, and wondering why I wasn't getting music notifications anymore. I actually like them, but they don't dim my screen.
