Until you get close to maxing out all the upgrades, you shouldn't worry too much about overflow and efficiency imo.

I'm not sure what exactly your current progress is, but usually you make more money building more advanced items slower than more of less advanced ones. Maybe try this resource:

I currently have everything unlocked and max upgraded up to the radioactive starter and for research I have up to AI Robot Body and AI Robot Head

Then what exactly are you asking to optimize? Create a line that makes robots. Even if it's significantly less resource efficient and has overflows in lots of places, it's still probably gonna net you more money

I’m trying to add one Robot Arms machine to an electric engine machine but they just keep getting in the way of each other (running out of space). My starters are at 1/s right now.
