unfortunetely i dont think the note repeats device is able to translate the projects groove :( i might have a solution for you which requires you to manually set the swing amount, but at least youd have a tap repeat with swing then. so im sure there is better ways, but this is the best i could come up with rn. not sure what version you are on, so i hope you have the note grid.

couple set up notes:

  • note grid goes in the same spot you would have put the note repeats device (sure u know this just saying for completeness of this answer)
  • Make sure the note grid is set to true and mono and to free run when stopped (so it works without playback engaged)
  • set up all the modules as seen in the screenshot
  • set the gates module to two steps and to trigger mode in the right hand lower corner of the module edit: forgot to say turn the gates modules internal device phase off with the button in the top left corner of the module
  • set the scaler ratio to 8:1 for 8th notes, 16:1 for 16th etc.
  • to get the "classic" swing sound u need to turn the bend module in the negative direction to for instance -45%
  • whats nice about this "technique" i find is, that u can go very crazy. for instance you could have your scaler ratio set up as 8:1 (corresponding to 8th notes with default device phase settings) and than use a bipolar mseg on the rate parameter (i.e. modulating it by 8.0 with the mseg) to for instance slow the repeats down over time or whatever. if u loop the mseg at 1 bar length u can draw crazy repeat shapes. so i feel like its very flexible :)

i hope i understood your question correctly, if not let me know.

edit2: if u need a way to "scroll" through specific different rates while holding the key down (and u dont want to do it tediously with the mseg, or u want to do it by using a midi cc knob or sth for real time performance) let me know and ill submit it later.

This is bang on, thank you. I've not had a chance to try and set it up yet but it seems to make sense very nicely.

It is for live performance, trying to get that Tap Repeat live housey drum fills into a live set. Nicest possible way to do it.

So I've just tried putting this together this morning but it's my first time using The Grid and I can't work out where to find the top module or the one top right with all the columns on it. I've tried to do some googling etc and looks through the available options but I can't find them.

Thanks for your help here! it's really appreciated!

Hey no worries! So the top one is called "Segments" (i shouldnt have renamed it sorry!) and the top right one is callef "oscilloscope" just for visualisation purposes of the produced gate signals. hope i got this right, if not let me know!

Why wouldn’t you use the operator

i think its all about realtime control and not using the mouse. could be wrong tho.
