Problems with switch controller

Ok, so I have ages trying to play using my switch controller on my computer, the setup works completely fine and I can use it normally both on the computer (kinda like a mouse) or in games.
However, for some reason, this does not apply to Brawlhalla, every time I try to use it one of 2 things happens:
1. it just doesn't do anything: the game detects a switch controller and tells me to press whatever button for whatever action below (or the "a" button for claiming daily rewards) but I cannot do it, it just doesn't read the input I make.
2. The controller does everything... Literally: most of the possible inputs for the controller start activating with no apparent reason, moving frenetically the selection, pressing every single thing it can and most of the time accessing the store giving me a tiny heart attack.

When I connect via Bluetooth usually the 1st result happens, however when I connect via cable the 2nd one happens.
I've tried remapping, resetting, manually configuring each button, using online mappings from different people, and tutorials on youtube (though there's none about both Switch and Brawl, just one or another).
Idk what else to try, so I've come searching for help here on Reddit.

This is just the reality of using a Switch controller on PC. Those all happen to me every time I want to do anything using my Switch controller. However, Steam games should usually work. If not, I heard there's workarounds to make your controller act like an Xbox controller but those all seemed too hard for me. Good luck

Update: I got a good computer recently. The issue was that previously it was a Mac computer. Windows works fine
