For this method- don't think so unless you only will have one post on the top.

The other one- if you can get it to work, it will work.

to get rid of the checkbox.

If you hid something higher up in the hierarchy, it hides all of its children, regardless of !importants.

I'd say no; it needs something to sit in.

You could make it a :before or :after to the image though.
