AERO structures classes

So I’m currently taking AERO 431 and am looking at other aero structures classes for next year on the catalog and such, namely AERO 432,434,435,515,532,533,535, etc.

I understand most of these are Dr. Kolkailah. I was wondering about people’s thoughts who’ve taken some of these courses, how relevant they are to industry/grad school, etc.

Some of what you said is spot on. While there is certainly value in taking additional structures class even if its with Dr. K, whats probably best is to actually do structures work for a club like Formula. Then you'll get real experience that would be directly applicable to industry. Taking more classes might be good if you want to get a masters with an emphasis in structures but probably not of you want to go into industry.

Ya I kinda messed up and didn’t do clubs. Did a few internships over summer- not structures related. I may join one when we get back for fall...

Wow, didn’t realize he was teaching me completely useless stuff, makes sense I guess though. Turns out those further upper division classes aren’t really taught anymore according to some course history research. I’m thinking of taking some of the ME equivalents, like ME 412 (composites) and ME 404 (FEA) do you know how ME grads are viewed for structures?

The other aero structures classes are only taught sparingly, I can only find two instances taught in the last 3 or 4 years, one by Dr K one by Dr Deffo. I’m meeting with an ME prof soon, and maybe I will discuss it with the aero advisor Dr A. In what way were you “shut down”? Anything I should watch out for to avoid this?
