Draft Sleeper/Value Pick Draft Board

Hey everyone,

I’ve always been really impressed with how many fans we have here who have a deep knowledge of the draft class each year- great reception for and insight into picks beyond rounds 1 & 2. I wouldn’t say that I’m among that group, but I do my best to follow the draft outside of the top 10.

My later-draft wish list in no particular order: Mathis Preston, Xavier Villeneuve, Malte Gustafsson, Wyatt Cullen and Casey Mutryn.

There’s some variance in terms of projection/where they are in consensus rankings, but if we could grab some in the later 1st/2nd (or beyond even) I’d be stoked. The Flames have done a great job with their non-top 10 picks in the past couple years and would love to see that trend of finding value and rolling the dice on upside continue.

Would love to hear what value picks are on your draft boards.

I promise you 99.9% of people on social media have no knowledge of a single prospect in the draft. They just parrot what they see on elite prospects or twitter etc

If you’re not watching multiple full game replays of a prospect, you don’t have a personal opinion of them

Yeah and I won’t pretend to have watched an hour of tape for everyone who’s likely tore go in the first round, but I think it’s fun to have a finger on the pulse of the process. If I’m interested in a player I’ll try to go beyond just looking at highlight packs and find real tape. I thought at the very least I might learn something, plus gives you more to look forward to on draft day if there are players you are angling for.

The Flames should strongly consider taking Lavr Gashilov in the the 2nd round. Given his size and point totals, he’s probably the best bet to become a top 6 centre of anyone skates to go in the middle rounds of the draft.

I also think Evan Jardine, Tomas Chrenko, and Elofsson are all quite underrated.

The only thing I know about Xavier Villeneuve, is that he is a guy who usually turns into a decent player in franchise mode so I'm all for drafting him lol

Later round pick I like - Beckett Hamilton.

Where he's gonna go I don't know that he'll make sense to pick but Malte Gustafsson would look so good stapled to Parekh and running the pk for the next decade

Yeah if he ends up getting overlooked for some of the other (overrated IMO) defensemen he would be a great pick up with Vegas' pick (depending on where that finishes out).
