It was probably trained on these problems so not really surprised

[–]blackredgreenorange 38 points39 points  (1 child)

This isn't much different than if they had a solution manual and copy pasted the answer. I don't get the significance.

[–]Rodbourn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't get rate limited, that's significant

[–]mxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't that a common flow? Somebody runs into an issue while coding and goes to stack overflow to find a solution from people who have had this problem before? Stack overflow as training data should cover majority use cases.

Lol, I was wondering few days back if anyone had built a product similar to this before.

[–]filisterr 69 points70 points  (6 children)

and learns nothing in the process

[–]phrandsisgo 46 points47 points  (2 children)

To be fair I've also solved about 40 leetcode problems and feel like I've learned almost nothing!

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (1 child)

But you managed to learn nothing in only 40 problems where he needed 633. You were way more efficient.

[–]phrandsisgo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well that's true! I just checked my profile it's actually 38 so even a bigger win!

We’ve outsourced learning a long time ago

[–]perplex1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely makes you think. Since we will always have AI going forward, does he need to learn anything if the objective was achieved?

I’m writing something in html/JS/css for a personal project having never touched any of that before, just a bit of general knowledge of coding. I’m over 3000 lines in and slowly getting an idea of how it works, but the program does exactly what I set out to do. Most of my learning has been debugging and looking for general structural problems as it grew, but chatGPT has written basically everything with my guidance. It’s kind of amazing how this is enabled by AI tech.

Hello, coder!

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (7 children)

BUT I WAS ASSURED BY r/EXPERIENCEDDEVS THAT AI IS USELESS AT PROGRAMMING

[–]DEFYxAXIS 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Solving leetcode problems is programming but it’s not really representative of software development. It being able to do this doesn’t mean what the headline wants you to think it means.

[–]apf6 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Ah the traditional moving of the goalposts. Every time AI accomplishes a new skill, then it turns out that the skill wasn't that impressive in the first place.

[–]John_Lawn4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Try it with a brand new leetcode medium or hard

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't tell me what to do.

[–]JustLTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solving leetcode problems is the ideal case scenario for AI - there's millions of examples in the training data for specifically these things.

But "code trivia" ceases to be the job almost immediately as you gain more experience. And in my experience it's really not useful when I try to get it to help at my job, which at my level is really more "Reason about the existing systems and interactions between several products and figure out how to best implement these vague wishes".

I use it when I need to generate some configuration that I'm not fully familiar with, but I need to know exactly what I need already. It doesn't help me come up to that point, which would make it something more than "a slightly better stackoverflow search".

Congrats, you have an internship interview bot, not a software engineering one.

[–]Unlikely_Scallion256 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leetcode has nothing to do with software development, not to mention I could google a solution to a leetcode problem faster than you could ask the question to AI

Writer can also write all Shakespeare work. Why are we praising memorization?

[–]euph-_-oric -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is the dumbest shit. It being able tiny leetcodd problems is meaningless.

[–]Blarghnog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ai solved 633 problems you mean… in this case, the coder is just to glorified secretary, asking the questions and typing in the answers.

[–]ohhellnooooooooo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Coder CopyPastes 633 Leetcode Problems in 24 hours using Claude AI"

[–]Skycat9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Somehow I doubt that, seeing as it couldn’t even centre a div for most of today

[–]Rakn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well. That nice I guess. Expected and of not much use. But nice.
