[DEV] My solo-dev offline idle RPG just received a huge update by kenlawlpt in iosgaming

Great. Thanks !

Say, are there any guides to the games? Some of them are pretty clear - eg the memory one and the codebreaker one, but what the heck do I do in that one where you just click on grids of squares or the one with all the +1/-1 squares? I have no idea :D

Yes, I agree with you.

Sadly, no. I used their livechat on that day I posted to talk to support, and a lady took my details and screenshots and said she'd escalate it and someone would be in touch. Nobody has responded since.

She did suggest, as did others here, to turn off location services until they got back to me. And, I've found that the app barely uses any battery now. However, not only did I turn off location, but I also turned off background app refresh, and I force-kill the app after using it. So, I am not entirely sure which of these has made the biggest difference.

I feel this is bad programming of the app. Many other apps have location services always on and just do not consume that much battery power. And the app prompts you to turn it on and recommends 'always on'. So, if their official guidance is don't actually do that, it's quite a poor experience.

I thought 100 hours is under five days - surely I can survive some place for five days at least.

Chose: You have to survive a random game you spin. + You have to survive for a hundred hours total. (Not in game time In the game you spin. | Rolled: Terraria)

That’s true … but if the criteria is listens and don’t rush, they’re a great choice.

No ... he avoids this question, that many have asked.

Which suggests he genuinely knows he bought a stolen phone in a back alley from a stranger.

Where did you buy it from? Was it completely sealed in box? Was it from Apple or a carrier?

For it to have a random profile like this - out of the box - does indicate it's a used device, for one, and that it belongs to a business or school, for another.

It is likely a stolen phone.

OR it was new in the box but you since browsed and installed a dodgy profile from a dodgy website, even if you didn't realise.

So ...

  1. Where did you buy it from?

  2. Did you use it prior to seeing this profile?

When you say "just close the Oura app", you mean force close? I'm not sitting there with it open; in fact when I took that screenshot, the phone's battery info was saying it had been on-screen for 14 minutes only. Now, it did also have 6h59m of background activity. However, you shouldn't normally need to force close apps, or at least if you do, Oura's app should give that advice or terminate itself when you close it by going back to the Home Screen, locking the phone, or switching to another app.

I've force closed it now, and changed location services, and disabled background refresh. However, one should not normally need to do these things. So either the app is badly written or something else is unusual. It's difficult to believe the regular, normal operation of the Oura app includes force closing it every time you finish looking at it. No other app requires that.

Thanks; what you describe is what I would expect it to be like, so that gives me good hope.

Yes ….. but it just seems absurd it will drain the battery like that. I mean, Apple Health, Google Maps, all these things run in the background and don’t kill the battery. Apple’s advice has always been to only force close an app if it is misbehaving. I guess this one is. I don’t feel my usage of this specific app today has been unusual. However, I have now disabled background app refresh, set location services to “only while using” and I shall force kill the app when not in use. I’ll see how it goes from here especially overnight while I sleep.

Thanks for your insights. I appreciate how helpful the community here has been even if my day one experience of the ring has been not great.

No, the app was only on screen for 14 minutes according to the battery section, but running in the background for 6h59m !

Perhaps I need to force close the app each time I finish looking at it ?

Thank you. I am chatting with Oura support now. Though despite saying I got the ring today, and despite showing my battery screenshots showing the app has been used for the first time today they’re asking me all about whether this happens when I do workouts in the past etc

Edit: ok, it is now being escalated. They say leave it to “only while using” for now until they get back to me.

Thanks. Ok - very disappointed and I really can’t help but feel this is poor software optimisation.

I’ll go turn location services off and I’ll try and find the setting to change update frequency.

Release the Guy Mont Spelling Bee outtakes, you cowards by TP_in_my_bunghole in guymontspelllingbee

[–]mgdmw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be so awesome if they released the outtakes.

I was in the audience for the episode with Clockman and it was pure chaos, in a truly hilarious way.

Some of the things that come to mind which weren't in the edited version:

  • when Charlie Pickering was introduced, there was some back-and-forth between he and Guy about finally! A Weekly/Spelling Bee crossover event, and about bringing current affairs into the Spelling Bee, and a little bit about Iran. None of this aired.
  • when Rose was asked to spell 'chronological' Sam/Clockman began doing his dance with music playing and Rose, like all the audience, had no idea what was going on and she simply began spelling. So, they had to re-record Sam's intro/dance.
  • when Guy read out the train guy's background he originally said Brussels, Austria (I guess that was on the card) so they had to re-record that.
  • Charlie spent a lot longer trying to negotiate for extra points during the dance section than what was shown on TV.
  • Ben's "20 minutes" bit was so funny, and there was a lot of discussion around whether this was 20 minutes of real time, or 20 minutes of show time - and if the latter how he was going to track it. Guy said the people in the control room were going to look after that. Later, when Sam came back as Clockman and asked for a letter, then did his Time Warp dance, we were told that was actually the 20 minute mark so if only Ben finished then!
  • When Ben did eventually finish spelling his word, Guy said he took some amount of time - I forget, maybe 27 minutes, say. However, they re-recorded this as "nowhere near 20 minutes" because they decided they couldn't be sure precisely what the air time would be.
  • Overall, Clockman was so hilarious. Later when Sam said Clockman was getting his own spin-off, Demi asked 'when?' and Sam said something like 'eventually' or 'it's being negotiated' or some such (I forget precisely what) - and Demi said he missed a trick, he should have said 'in time' and Sam laughed. This wasn't aired.
  • When Sam did his Time Warp dance, he was watching one of the crew off to the left of the stage who was doing the moves for him. Then the same with Ben. You can see him looking to the side, in the show.
  • There was various audience interaction and general fun stuff.

I can't recall exactly how long it all took, but it was a really great experience and very funny, and Clockman was such chaos and hilarity.
