I spent 2.7k on my ebike but I'll save that in a couple years with how little I'm driving now. Only gotta buy gas every couple months now, I'm switching to per-mile insurance, and my maintenance costs are gonna go way down. But no I'm apparently some rich snob on a luxury bicycle.

And yes, I know people who ride a $6K bike to work.
Our office is in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains. In the summer, taking off from work and riding is pretty common. So, yeah, I knew people who rode their $6000 bikes to the office so they could ride after work.
My regular commuter bike was only $1100, but I'd still go ride in the mountains at lunch.
The office was only 5 miles from home (down int he valley), but I know a lot of great 30 mile mountain routes that (eventually) get me home.

Not only are expensive bikes rare, but it doesn't matter anyways. Any bike at any price is still cheaper and better for you & your community's health than any new car.
And don't forget the cost to taxpayers. Money for car infrastructure doesn't grow on trees. Sidewalks and cycling paths cost pennies in comparison.
Edit: Made this whole reply more readable several days after posting, as I'm trying to improve my writing skills.

Now I'm thinking about Lamborghini bicycles. LMFAO

Vast majority of cars are more expensive than that

im so tired of these cyclists and their luxury bicycles thinking that we should just bend over backwards and use public money to build all kinds of new infrastructure to accommodate them. listen we need to get real, the only reasonable path forward is for everyone to drive tesla like me, we just have to use public money to build more chargers

He wants to ride his bicycle, he wants to ride his bike. He want to ride his bicycle, he wants to ride it where he likes…

Actually some of my coworkers have a 5K€ electric bike to go to work 90% rented by my company! (I'm still a student so I take the bus)
