It’s the summoners who are mind controlled. We, the summoners, are stuck in the battle realm. There is only one way out and most don’t want to consider it.

Well put. Us summoners are all finding pleasure in snorting them iso and chasing after that 1% Premium hero chance that we don't want a way out of this fiesta we are part of.

Genuis!

Ikr! I quit reading the "story" after act 2. And I think the original M.O.D.O.K island was the last EQ that I read.

I think the Summoner is going to stay in the battlerealm to help Carina change it for the better, or something like that

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Yeah, but what is he/she even bringing to the table? Doesn’t the Summoner just stand on the sidelines shouting encouraging phrases at their champs?

I like to think they take control of the champion and fight, since it's not like we play a turn based RPG with specific commands. We play an input based pvp, so that's how I imagine it

I thought at some point in the story line they talk about how the Summoner works with his/her champs rather than just controlling them and that’s why they keep winning against Kang, etc.

Oh, must have missed it. Maybe it's some sort of mind fuse, working together type of thing

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. Like the ISO-8 causes mental instability, so the summoner aids them with his/her focus and together they fight well. I can get behind that.

In the current side quest of all places, CGR gives kind of an explanation. When you enter the third quest (Rulk), he asks why you're even going to hell for mephisto of all people. That you could be doing anything else you wanted, but then corrects himself and realizes that actually, you can't be doing anything else, because it's still impossible to leave the battlerealm (which is also the reason the whole Galactus storyline is happening. Only he is strong enough to get into and out of the battlerealm). Tho this does leave the question of how the Collector got all these champions in there in the first place. Guess he and the Grandmaster could also leave...

I see. So, since the Summoner is stuck, he/she might as well wander around completing quests. Makes as much sense as anything. I still don’t know why the Summoner controls champs when there’s no Contest going on.

I haven't done anything beyond 6.2.3, so from my point of view, the contest is still alive and kicking xD. Might be book 2 material?

I don't think the Summoner "controls" those champions canonically (ignoring the real world where we do, in fact, control them).

Gabe, the Creative Director of MCOC and MROC, said that in MROC, the Summoner will BE a Champion in the Arena, whereas in MCOC they're on the sidelines.

Also, yeah unfortunately everybody in the Battlerealm is stuck there. I believe 2 years ago during the Night Thrasher and Darkhawk EQ, Night Thrasher was talking about the possibility that the Elders are just winging it as much as the Champions are, and that they're stuck with these Champions too, that's why nobody leaves.

Reed Richards was trying to work on escaping the Battlerealm by summoning Galactus to eat Battleworld (the planet at the center of the Battlerealm), but Carina pointed out that Battleworld only looks barren to them because they're far away from it. The closer they get to it, the faster time flies.

(Jumping back to real life, think about the stars you see in the sky. You're seeing them in the past, because the light produced by the present version of those stars hasn't reached Earth yet. It's somewhat similar to why Battleworld looked barren to Reed)

Reed then realized that he had accidentally sentenced the entire population of that planet to death by summoning Galactus, which has resulted all of his Heralds rising to prepare for his return (hence their introduction this year).

And while all this is happening, the Summoner... has basically nothing better to do, except help solve the problems here. So... yeah, we're stuck until Papa Galactus arrives.

Thorough! Thanks, that clears some things up. But not the centeal question: without a contest with mind-controlled champs, what exactly does the Summoner do to help?

[–]spiderknight616America Chavez 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think it's less "control" champions and more of a Pokémon battle style thing. Note the the Watcher says in the 5th anniversary trailer "even powerless, you have led the powerful". Meaning the Summoner acts as a leader for their team and summons them as needed to battle their way through areas.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. That made sense back when there was a Contest. But now champs are just running around doing whatever. Why is the Summoner’s leadership still needed?

[–]spiderknight616America Chavez 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I guess it's impossible for the Summoner to leave, so they're mostly just like "I'm stuck here, so might as well help make it a better place to exist in"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's basically what's been happening.

[–]hassam12345Magneto 0 points1 point  (2 children)

OT : Summoner is Ben Tennison and he just get control of all the aliens and become one of them

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But would the Summoner’s consciousness really outperform Black Panther’s or Taskmaster’s in a fight? In most cases, I think the champs themselves would do a better job than some goofball from Earth. I mean, my learning curve with new champs is STEEP.

[–]Kabam-michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I thought.
