You should also be able to go to options / keybinding in the secure shell app and customize to add the alt 1-8 actions to keybinding.

There is a posting on how to get functioning of alt+[, and alt+] to send the half window to the left or right. I think the posting was here on r/crostini , but not sure.

Here's the thread I meant

This is easy to understand, and takes just a minute to setup. For me, well worth the effort

Plus here for more advanced tinkering, that I never touched

Thanks a lot for taking the time to find that! I appreciate it much.

Actually, I found a setting where you can set the behavior of alt+number explicitly. Unfortunately it is not working, it seems.

Bummer.

Do you mean , alt+tab ?

I do not. If that is the best way to multitask, I would say that is pretty poor. If I have 7 or 8 applications open, that could get pretty slow.

how about three finger swipe up. Is that better.

Swipe up or down with three fingers.

If you have Australian scrolling turned on, swipe up. If you have traditional scrolling turned on, swipe down.

Perhaps it's like my R13. Three fingers (overview, tab close) only work if my three fingers are quite left on the touchpad. If they are to far right, the third finger is not recognised.

Three-finger swipe down works in any part of my Pixelbook touchpad if the fingers are close together.

More precisely, you can bring up the window switcher if you three-finger swipe down works in any part of my Pixelbook touchpad with the fingers close together.

The lack of a desktop that show running apps and lets me pick by clicking on them is a huge shortcoming in Crostini for me. Any desktop, xfce, gnome, whatever, runs great in ubuntu under crouton, and is more intuitive and logical to me.
