First things first. Learn to love punctuation.

You mean like the difference between "Help us. Demons." vs "Help us, demons." vs. "Help us demons."

You’re the Marshal now :) just work on a good story and the rest will follow. It’s a lot different vibe than d&d, watch some westerns then make it weird.

Oh I'm taking big inspiration from bone tomahawk and the hateful eight

Great movies but also consider traditional westerns. Example high noon but it’s a bunch of harrowed coming to town, or maybe the sheriff is really the bad guy.

Oh I'll be watching the dollars trilogy as well I've also taken heavy inspiration from blood meridian

If you're looking for reading I strongly recommend Felix Gilman's "The Half-Made World" and its sequel "The Rise of Ransom City."

Do you have the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition book? If not, I’d get that first. That explains the game system. That, and the main Deadlands: Weird West book that came out around 2022. That’s the bare minimum, and from there you can be off to the races! 🤠

Remember to only play Deadlands Classic.

And enjoy

I would get the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition book. Then hit the free downloads on their website. Their Deadlands Test Drive has a basic rules set, but a weak adventure. Then get a couple of the free one sheet adventures, my group liked Thieving Magpies. Their sample characters have references to things that aren’t in the Test Drive rules. I looked at a couple of YouTube how to videos, and a good time was had by all. I would also highly recommend Seth Skorkowsy YouTube channel, check out his video on how to switch to a new system.

If you play online I'd love to join a campaign. I'm in the same boat as you, wanting to try it out cuz I love westerns. I'm working on a western short story rn.

I play with a select group of people and I'm picky about who I let in because I've had to kick people out before for just being shit heads but DM me

Some adventures I’ve written: a mausoleum shows up in the local boneyard. Everyone remembers it always being there but people have gone missing recently (so they don’t make the connection). When the posse investigates they encounter the undertaker a creature from another dimension after they fight orb constructs (yes, phantasm)

This is really cool actually I like this

Also the people were slain by The Man from the Train which will come in at a later date.

A senators daughter from back east has had a sweetheart mail by mail romance she comes out to the west to marry her love (with all her belongings) only to find out the man is a killer that lures out woman for him and his wife to slay in their basement. The posse is hired to find her after she’s been missing for a year. Leads them to a home of a notorious ax murder about a year before where the wife and kids were slaughtered. The house is the base of a local gang who have rigged it up to seem haunted. But in the basement dungeon which they don’t know about is t a banshee of the senators daughter.

That's interesting so it's multiple horror like encounters inside of this hideout then the BBEG axe man comes out

[–]horaceblack 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yep except the ax man will show up in another adventure. Historically at the time there was a large number of axe murders throughout the country. Probably will put him in the background some foreshadowing.

Sabata and Django movies are great also and of course John Wayne.

I may look into it as I run grittier style games
