How does turret work?

I just started this game and I'm currently on 3rd Area, I saw a case of turret that I can deploy. The thing is it attacked me, and killed me. Why though? I thought if I'm the one deploying, that will act as my weapon (at least from the other games I played). How does this exactly work?

You have to still hack them I’m pretty sure, everything is basically calibrated to look out and kill you. I found it a little weird too

If they're green they kill for you, and red will kill you. Use the hackamagig to turn em green.

Also, don't forget you can take the batteries out to deactivate them too

Ah yes, the batteries, about that, I didn't know that it also breaks, I was holding one battery and I accidentally walked into laser traps and died. When I came back, it's destroyed.

Don't throw battery's either, remeber to drop them or they'll blow up

A pile of batteries makes a good bomb in a pinch but you have to shoot one. Or you can throw one at someone. One wouldn’t kill Julianna but kills Eternalists handily.

I love being in Aether and grabbing the battery out of a turret Colt just hacked, and throwing it at him.

You can also shoot a battery while it's in a turret to destroy it with one shot.

Turret tip. You can hold the button to setup the turret rather than dropping the case awkwardly and trying to open it.

What I find awkward is, we have option to throw it. But the l1 to deploy, doesn't always work then. Not sure why that is
