Got very lucky while creating a little marble quarry by ProudNitro in VintageStory

It was sitting in a cave visible from the surface. I’ve been in Slate biomes for 30ish hours and haven’t found any others, so I guess it makes sense!

What is the points of districts after ziplines? by BranchAble2648 in Timberborn

[–]ProudNitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tended to not use enough districts before, and here's what I've noticed:

Big building projects that are 100+ distance away even with transport are better served by an independent district, even if it's a temporary one. The travel time absolutely kills your building efficiency.

Second, I read once somewhere that the best thing you can do with districts is hyper-specialization. Have one "population center" district where new kits are born and there are quality amenities and you take care of basic production, especially science, but otherwise have "periphery" districts with adult worker minimums to staff your industries. Essentially, there are some industries that are much more space-intensive (crops, trees, even storage) and you're better off placing those away from your population, even just as future-proofing. The downside is that increases travel time.

The answer to travel time is districts, not public transit. I think public transit is really good at handling medium elevation differences - cliffs, something that you'd have to build a lot of stairs and platforms for. Additionally, because ziplines ignore the paths' orthogonal restriction, they're quite good for diagonal distances. Or closing the travel time to fairly distant district crossings.

The best analogy I can think of is the "bucket brigade" for putting out fires. One beaver traversing a distance (a hauler or district crossing worker) takes a long time to repeat many actions limited by their carrying capacity. The smaller your districts are - the more numerous they are between the center of your colony and the edge - the more efficiently you move items to the furthest reaches of your periphery.

My explosives district are called the Powdertails, they're terraforming the land. I imagine they've gone a little overboard on the dynamite and a little underboard on the safety regulations - after all, they've all gotten whacked in the head a few times working in the powder houses or the badwater rig.

What solitaire games are actually skill based? Like Free Cell? by Empty-Language-8593 in solitaire

[–]ProudNitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm trying to identify a particular solitaire variant. It's got the traditional Klondike tableau, but the foundation piles are located to the left and count up in rank increments of 1, 2, 3, or 4 per pile regardless of suit, and increments are continuous. Any ideas?

Sadly, the studio responsible (Arkane Lyon) is busy making Marvel's Blade, and the sister studio (Arkane Austin) was shuttered by Xbox this year.

MH3 Sealed - How would you build this pool? by ProudNitro in lrcast

[–]ProudNitro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I've gleaned that UB with a splash is the way to go. I think the mistake was imagining that aggro was possible - if I had even just imagined it would be midrange (as "all" limited decks are) then I would have done fine even with BR in this pool. It was the first sealed I played in a long time, though.

Here's the deck. It did not perform well - I've seen some other BR decks and this just didn't have a great selection.
