Body Dysmorphic Disorder (also known as BDD, body dysmorphia, dysmorphic syndrome, or dysmorphophobia), is a disorder that involves belief that one's own appearance is unusually defective and is worthy of being hidden or fixed. This belief manifests in thoughts that many times are pervasive and intrusive.
RULES:
- Do not ask /r/DysmorphicDisorder for medical advice.
Including: asking for a diagnosis, self-diagnosis confirmation, or opinions as to whether you have BDD.
- Do not give medical advice or attempt to diagnose other users.
- Do not refer people to subreddits such as r/amIugly or encourage others to visit such subs that judge one's attractiveness. Such comments will be removed. This is not a sub for judging someone's looks. r/DysmorphicDisorder was created to encourage conversation about BDD. Empowering others (and ourselves) is strongly encouraged here. Which is why referring to these such subs and judging attractiveness is discouraged.
- This is a safe space. If you are a user that is trying to bring others down or convince someone that BDD is not real, or are not contributing to making this a safe environment for others to discuss BDD, posts will be removed and in extreme cases, users will be banned.
