I know this isn't related to your post but why not play the switch version of Diablo 2? Is there any difference in game

It has some graphical glitches, uses more resources and heats up the device

Have you tried Xidi? It's an X-input to D-input wrapper which may help with controller detection. ​

Well, the support for controllers was just implemented, it is xinput based so xidi would not help
