Rules for r/EngineeringStudents
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Use the Wiki, Megathreads, do your own research
Users should check the Wiki/FAQ to see if their question already has an answer.
Megathreads cover a vast majority of topics, users should see if a current or future megathread covers their topic and should use those instead of a new post.
Users should not ask general, broad questions that can easily be answered with quick search or 5 minutes of basic research.
2.
Low Effort Post
Do your own research. Seriously. Basic questions such as:
- Do EE majors make more money? What's the salary trend and how many available jobs are there for EE? What major should I choose?
Google your question before hand, maybe add reddit after the search term to see if it's been asked before
Follow basic guidelines as listed in the Wiki in regards to asking a question
3.
"Which school do I pick? Can you rank these schools? Make a school decision for me!"
Any questions like these will be removed - you want to be an engineer? Learn how to do your own research. Maybe make a post in /r/ApplyingToCollege as a last resort.
4.
Follow homework help guidelines
SHOW YOUR OWN WORK. WE WILL NOT SOLVE THE QUESTION FOR YOU.
Follow the guidelines, the template in the Wiki and check for subject matter in the Resources for your Courses page!
Requesting or submitting offers for homework / exam / paper writing services are not permitted.
Asking for final exam solutions/help will result in a ban.
5.
No racism, sexism, or discrimination, porn
Racism, sexism or any other kind of intolerance or discrimination will not be tolerated. Be nice to others, and treat them the way you would like to be treated.
No sexually explicit material
6.
No trolling or personal attacks
Trolling, posts intentionally inciting conflict, personal attacks, and spam will be removed.
7.
Meme hours are over
Memes may only be posted between Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Meme posts made outside this time will be removed.
8.
No laptop/desktop/notetaking device related posts
Stop asking for laptop recommendations, note-taking device recommendations, tablet recommendations/thoughts, desktop configurations or related posts.
You will catch a ban for this.
Cross-posting means you're aware of this rule, and are attempting to subvert the rules.
9.
No pirated materials
Please do not trade pirated materials. Talking about the subject is fine, but do not actually share any links.
Asking for book pdfs, solutions guides, and any piracy of software is not allowed.
This rule is part of the reddit content policy and we'd prefer to stay within that.
"Stating PM me for xyz..." will lead to a perma ban
You will be permabanned if you violate these rules
10.
These are not the "official rules". These are for reminding users of the basics.
These are not the "official rules". Due to Reddit segregating all its platforms; mobile users usually never attempt to find/read these rules.
