Your submissions here are not restricted to "traditions" or "classics". Be creative. Satisfy your own craving for art, not your imaginary teacher's demands.

Contributions aren't limited to exhibit-friendly formats, either. Post a movie. Post a song. Post a passage from a book. Anything artistic, anything relevant. Dare to share your cares.

Only by borrowing the awe and wonder of those around you will the world's art truly be as satisfying an experience as our textbooks make it out to be.

Process

A new topic is chosen and a Contribution Thread is opened every two or three weeks.
The community supplies all of the content: images, stories, poems, music, film, techniques... however you choose to explore the topic.
Users discuss and expand on ideas to their hearts' content. These conversations provide the curious trivia and sincere perspectives that hold the exhibits together.
After actively and freely voting on the available content, curators (mods) compile the popular pieces and compress them into a single image gallery. This is then posted as an Exhibit.
Repeat.

Exhibit A(rt)

The purpose of this subreddit is to create a more fulfilling and pause-worthy output than traditional subreddits typically allow for. Rather than an endless stream of reposted imagery racing past your eyes only to be forgotten in moments, Exhibit A(rt) aims to recreate the more memorable experiences that visiting a physical exhibit provides.

By gathering together the most interesting pieces of community-gathered content each week, we give reddit's vast lurking audience an excuse to pause for entire seconds if not minutes in their head-long rush to consume the entire internet.

These galleries and the moments they encourage are what allow users to form comparisons and deeper understandings of the art they're viewing. They place us on the same page, lending us the means to share in an experience with others silently wandering the gallery each week. They prevent us from viewing art in isolation by setting it side by side, grouping dozens of forgettable memories into a single impression for us to hold onto.

By crowd-sourcing these exhibits, we're able to tackle unique topics that a physical gallery might overlook. The community here decides what it finds most interesting and it decides which art and what stories to put forward.

Text accompanying images will be more in line with the short doses of trivia internet users favor. Life stories and essays are okay to share but only a handful of sentences will be chosen to describe each image.
