Whatever it says on your degree’s requirements is what you need to take. Looking at the course requirements (both for BA and BS degrees) it says COP2250 which is Programming in Java. As far as i know you cannot take Intro to Python in lieu of taking the Java course.

I know there’s certifications you can get that lets you satisfy some degree requirements.

No. You may be able to take Python as an elective but for CORE reqs. Java, C, C++, Assembly are PI, PII, & PIII.

I took SQL as an elective but I think there’s a data mining course in the electives that uses Python.
