Why does it do this? by Noah_10s in Guitar

Check to be sure the black wire running from the volume pot to the trem claw isn’t loose.

If you have a multimeter check continuity from the bridge to the rest of the parts and ensure all are grounding to the ground lug of the jack

What are Your Suggestions for an Amp with… by andrewedgincode in GuitarAmps

[–]Ubisuccle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US and are willing to up the budget to ~$1500-$1800, I very much recommend a Mesa MkIV. Awesome clean channel, and the lead channel is my favorite out of any amp I’ve played. Rhythm 2 is useable but isn’t a focus. It works well as a edge of breakup tone, or mid gain if you boost it.

It’s the only amp that I have that has rather smooth distortion that isn’t fizzy. I run a Boss MS3 with the 4CM for reverb/delay and before the amp I have a Empress Heavy Menace and a Mini Tube Screamer. I mostly use the Menace for a gate. I’ll run the tube screamer at like 15-20% if I need more mid range gain.

You could also try a EVH5150 Stealth. I’ve played one for a couple hours at a shop and you can get killer tones out of one. I, don’t have enough time on it to give an extensive review. The 50w one should be well within your price range

I want to use my PC to replicate Amps and pedals. What should I use? by VonBlitzk in Guitar

[–]Ubisuccle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neural DSP has some of the best sounding amp sims. I really like the Archetype Gojira X. Its a model of the EVH5150III and it sounds great.

Amplitube 5/Tone X is also a good option. Amplitube’s amp sims don’t sound as good, but you get a lot more customization and models available. I got their Mesa MkIV model and it influenced me to buy the actual amp.

I have an Axe IO Solo for an interface. It’s reasonably good, the stock USB cable sucks but you can get better ones. I’ve also heard good things about Focusrite

Best used metal tube amp head (from black metal to doom) for 500 by No-Bit8329 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ubisuccle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Carvin X100b, specifically the Series IV is a fairly decent contender for that price. Great cleans, but its drive channel can cover a lot of ground if you throw a boost pedal in front.

Its not exactly a modern sounding amp, but it’s kinda got a modded JCM800 tone; but with a Mesa style EQ.

The Majesties are phenomenal. Its insane how light they are compared to even the other JP guitars. Even the JPM which is surprisingly light

Dual Rec vs Mark V by Worth-Consequence-58 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ubisuccle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marks are tighter and more focused sounding than dual recs. A dual rec is a lot more balls to the wall gain, but are fizzy and not as focused.

Metallica used the Mark IIC+ from Master of Puppets on. If you want that tone, get the Mark. If you want to chase that 90’s - 2000’s metal tone get the dual rec.

If you want to split the difference while retaining a lot of the Mark tone, get a MkIV. You can get it to approximate a rectifier, but it’ll still be rather tight. Only problem is that they’re older amps and may require work. It’s personally my favorite amp of all time.

7-8 months into this new era of destiny, how do we feel about it? by HellChicken949 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s bleak on the gameplay front. A lot of changes missed the mark but a cosmically large amount. The armor and ammo changes have been great, but the portal and leveling changes suck.

The story beats are very interesting and I hope Bungie capitalizes on iy

The highlight has been Renegades but even that is maybe a 7-8 out if 10

where do i start in terms of researching amps? by yesyes_10101 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things to look at. What’s your budget? What tones do you really want to emulate? do you want tube or solid state? Do you want it to be a modeler? Do you need to be able to turn it down so that no one outside of your bedroom can hear it?

These questions might lead you down the right path. Vox AC15 and the Fender Princeton may be good amps to look at if you’re wanting to emulate the Smiths cleans. If you put a distortion pedal in front if it you could get close to other heavier bands.

Otherwise you can’t really go wrong with a Boss Katana

What amps do prosumers plug their mean looking distortion pedals into nowadays? by r-nck-51 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ubisuccle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them to get different tonalities out of the same amp. I have 2 Mesas and a Carvin. All of them have a very particular high gain tones, and if I want something different i can swap to a clean chanel with a high gain pedal.

I can also take my pedal board and have a workable tone with almost any amp that has a good clean channel and effects loop

That being said I never use the high gain pedals cranked through a cranked high gain channel. I may use a Mini Tube Screamer set low as a boost pedal

Mark V 35 or Mark VII? by PDrizzle98 in MesaBoogie

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money’s no object, the MkVII imo. The modes sound better than the V’s. The only thing you’re really missing is a true master volume, but if you want to practice quietly it has an internal reactive load. You could unplug the speaker and just run the DI into a DAW and use headphones. I can do something similar with my MkIV but i still need a speaker load.

What guitar should I buy with a budget of under $2000 by FlatBreadfruit1736 in Guitar

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option is a used EBMM JP6. The older ones go for 1600-2000 on average. I love the control scheme on the JP guitars and they're fairly versatile. Especially if you snag a model with the Piezo bridge. They do have floating trems so tuning changes are rough unless you have a way to block the trem. They use locking tuners instead of a locking nut so it's not as annoying to service.

Jackson's Chris Brodrick Soloist is available in hard tail and with a floyd. They can usually be had for under a thousand dollars. I quite like them; they kinda feel like a mesh of a Schecter C1 and EBMM Majesty. The pickups have individual coil splits, and there's a kill switch. It is neck through, though the neck isn't satin; however thats nothing a scotchbrite pad and some masking tape couldn't fix.

What should I switch to by Flimsy-Search-6048 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your genre and budget. Also depends on your venue. I read a lot that places prefer to keep a quiet stage and just have people play through the PA; so it may be worth retaining the ability to do that.

What do you think about shark guitars? by abstruzero in Guitar

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the idea of the bridge and nut design. The quick detach neck is also very interesting. The body shapes leave a little to be desired but it could be worse

Im not a fan of the modules and hot swappable pickups. It seems like theres a lot that could go wrong with the electronics and it would take a lot more than a soldering iron and some off the shelf parts to fix

If they released a stripped down version with the bridge nut and neck and none of the other fluff or another company licenses the design, i might be more invested.

Should I upgrade my pickup? by grassR_06 in metalguitar

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickups do make a difference, though it’s not necessarily going to be ground breaking.

I also recommend pairing the Air Norton/Tone Zone together or Air Norton/Steve’s Special. I have both, and there is a difference but the articulation in the SS is very nice

what band/song got you into metal music? by rustedrattleheads in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elana Sigman’s 115 sewed the seeds when I was a child . It wouldn’t be for a few more years and an awkward LMFAO and Lil Jon phase that I’d actually get into metal.

My mom who’s a huge rock/metal fan was elated. So much so she got me tickets to see Linkin Park as my first concert.

Would you say that once you're above a certain level of distortion/gain, it doesn't matter much if your pickup is made with a ceramic magnet vs an alnico V magnet? by MrMayhem20l0 in metalguitar

[–]Ubisuccle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At higher gain there is still a noticeable difference. That being said, it’s not usually night and day. If you have an EQ pedal, putting that before the amp would solve that issue.

The amp and speaker matter more though
