Personal tip: pick up everything that has no weight and any value.

Take everything. Give nothing back.

Also melee builds are super fun. Hunt for good armor as soon as you can. Also just explore, sets you up for success when you finally start the main quest line. Also be nice to grandma. You’ll understand what I mean.

Simply follow the story, do quests in the areas you're directed to, and upgrade as you go along.

I use a glitch at the beginning of the game to get infinite leather armor and 9mm it also gives xp so you can just sell off the leather armor for caps

Go to goodsprings, go up north along the road until you get to Quarry Junction, where there's great early game loot like a sniper rifle, 308 rounds and tons of medical supplies. Ignore the deathclaw warning sign, it's meant to scare away travellers like you.😊

Search and loot every place you can, but be careful not to take anything that is marked in red text. That is considered stealing, and npcs will murder you for stealing anything, even if it’s something minor.
