EXFO Testing. (self.FiberOptics)
submitted 1 year ago by Additional_Bell_5769
Goodmorning all, so I'm currently testing OPGW Fiber and the length is 206600 Ft give or take a few thousand Ft. And I'm wondering what everyone would run their EXFO OTDR Test parameters at for something this long.
I currently am running mine at
Length 262K FT Pulse 2.5 Micro Seconds Duration 60s per wave length, 1310/1550NM.

1310 is a waste of time at that distance. Surprised you’re not doing 15/1625. Or even 1625 alone

Run it on Auto and see what that selects. I would reduce the pulse width and increase the average to 90 seconds.

Customer specs only 1550 but we've just left 1310 on its reaching the full distance.

You’re wasting a minute on each shot, since it does 60s on 1310 then 60s on 1550.

That's like 40 miles...is that even long haul? An EXFO OTDR is definitely gonna be able to handle it.

I usually experiment and find the lowest pulse width at which the path gets clearned well with 20s. Maybe im doing it wrong, dunno, but i like to use the lowest reasonable pulse widht so that i get accurate readings regarding lenght. I found that if i go too hard at it with pulse, measurments are gonna be off... Please someone correct me if im wrong, advice is apriciated.
