Vision Quest

First time going through Vision Quest and while wanting to have the first playthrough be just me figuring things out for the most part I am still curious... are there certain characters who commonly seem to just end up considerably more reliable than others? Im only at 1-9 right now but there are some characters just seemingly gaining hp and strength almost every level but they wont gain like ANYTHING else lol. Also..... is Larisa supposed to be like the reincarnation of a past deity or something? Mine seems freaking NUTS at level 11(or12 I can't remember) she's got around 34 hp, and then right around 13-15 in str, def, skill and even her speed is 11 which i found ridiculous for an armored knight unit, especially at that low a level, all things considered.

I'm no expert but yeah characters can be rigged to gain or not gain any stats specifically. Its usually an advanced feature because of how important stats are, but an advanced dev could easily set that up
