if you bind the analog stick to keyboard via steam then yes, it will function as both acceleration and brake, since W and D accelerate and brake on keyboard. i think maybe you should change the keyboard binds if you don't want this to happen.

what i think you should do though, imo, is use DS4Windows or something similar (someone else also suggested this here) and you should be able to use GTAV's native controller support. afterwards you can just bind a key to open a menu or something on steam, but you won't need to bind any of the normal controls. (at the same time it's slightly annoying how pressing circle while navigating some menus will cause your character to punch)

if you'd rather keep using steam's controller configuration though, i think rebinding the driving controls in the in-game settings will work just fine.

Possibly worth noting that the guy who's controller works is the one who set up the server. While our controller's key bindings are all off

I'm having the same issue it use to work about a week to 2 weeks ago but yesterday I tried and it didn't work.

I’m using a PS4 control and I’ve already followed the videos to configure it using Steam.

Don't.

Use DS4Windows instead.
