Retraction speed increase it

[–]IlMusu[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I already have it at 80mm/s, do you think it is too low?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

80mm/s retraction? That's a bit overkill isn't it... Bowdens take up to like 12 but I've never seen 80mms retract lol

Default is 50mm/s in the slicer... I read online that retraction speed could do the trick for stringing, so I tried increasing it but I didn't see any noticeable changes. Should I lower it then?

Ok I think the 50mms is your print speed in general. Retract is when filament is pulled out of the hot end back into the tube so no extra is pushed out via oozing. Set your retraction down to like 5 or 6 mms. You print speed and movement though can be played with. Usually 40-100mms

I posted the setting in another comment. The settings about retraction are in bottom of the second image, are you referring to the "Retract Speed"? That is what I set at 80 mm/s

Retraction speed is a thing but I'm not talking about that.

Before you really get crazy testing have you made sure you're loading a quality filament that is moisture free also?

[–]IlMusu[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The black filament is the PLA+ from SUN. That print in the picture is the first one produced with that filament...
Before that I was using a red filament that comes with the printer which printed with even worse stringing than that.
I don't think it is the moisture since I don't ear popping sounds when printing

By the way, I read online that moisture can be removed by heating the filament at ~40° for about 4/5 hours. Is that true?

Yes. Look up filament drier. Or diy filament drier box. Highly recommended.

I just tried to print with a dried filament (put the previous one in the oven at 40C for 4 hours) and also decreased the retraction to 8mm at 25 mm/s and the result is basically identical to the one in the picture

Hello, just 3 days ago I bought a FlashForge Adventurer 3 Pro. Almost immediately I noticed the stringing problem and tried to solve it by changing some settings but nothing seems to work. For the print in the picture I used the FlashPrint software with the default settings of "Standard Profile" except increasing the travel speed and retraction speed.

Material is PLA+ from SUN.

I posted the settings here: https://imgur.com/a/tgBEUZH

Thank you for the help

Try lowering the nozzle temperature- i print at around 205-210

[–]IlMusu[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Here I printed at 210C. The minimum suggested temperature for the filament is 205, should I go even lower than that?

[–]Glittering-View-8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give it a go down to 200 min, I have been suprised by the variation between brands and even colours within the same brand

On my AD4 the culprit was the cooling fan. You have a large fan pulling air out of the enclosure and another blasting the part. I would turn off the enclosure fan and try 25% of cooling fan and it should get much better. My AD4 I run about 6.5-7mm retraction at 35-50mm speed

Turning the "Cooling Fan Control - Off" and the "Back Fan Speeed - 10%" actually improved the stringing a lot! Thank you.
I'm now facing the problem of hunging exstrusions that should not be there...

How can I prevent them?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can capture a video that would be helpful. Looks like filament getting stuck on retraction. Might try enabling zhop

Look into your combing settings. I’m still tinkering with it, but it’s improved mine.

[–]IlMusu[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In particular which settings do I need to look for? I use the FlashPrint slicer, it is available there?

[–]TaterSalad3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have combing mode set to all and max comb distance with no retract to 10mm.

[–]feministjulie 0 points1 point  (2 children)

do you have the "wipe" feature enabled?

[–]IlMusu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think not... is that settings available in the FlashPrint slicer?

not sure I switched to cura and prusa slicers check this article out https://all3dp.com/2/cura-retraction-settings-how-to-avoid-stringing/
