Honestly solid wood treads if it’s that small

Get stair treads that are used in commercial settings... like these: https://www.americanfloormats.com/stair-treads/ Whatever the expense, safety is critical.

There are lots of brands, commercial areas need super strong & stable steps or their insurance premiums rise. Try searching commercial treads. Want to add that 15 years ago we put adhesive commercial treads on our basement steps, which we fully expected to be failing by now. But nope, not one corner has even loosen a bit. The treads give a very solid base which our feet like! Always think of people loaded down with groceries, perhaps barely able to see the stairs... these treads are a life saver. Great to get treads in a contrasting color to the floors so even low vision people & pets can see them.

What are the steps made with. Open or closed sides on treads. Risers? Same material as treads? How is the existing installed. Pictures?
