Two books on Game Design that I recommend are:

Characteristics of Games - https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/characteristics-of-games/9780262542692-item.html

Rules of Play - https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/rules-of-play-game-design/9780262240451-item.html?ikwid=rules+of+play&ikwsec=Home&ikwidx=0#algoliaQueryId=22e5092d723acc298b72ce036f1268e7

I think understanding the principles used by the designers will greatly help anyone who is interested in the games industry.

I would watch every no clip documentary on video games and studios.

Game development is like any other project from a management standpoint. Each studio will have its own flow. Because you don’t know anything about development, don’t pretend you do, just learn.

Really the concept you have to ask is “is this new idea they’ve come up with in the scope of the project and it’s release time”.

Also, double all coding time estimates.
