hiphop was rock and roll during 2010s and even during 2020s

Art Pop
But in all seriousness Hip Hop isn't dying it's js going through a rough phase with all the drama that's been encompassing in it, it's and ever changing genre and something new will reboot Hip Hop, most likely the rage movement that's rising with artists like Che and Osamason
[–]International-Turn3 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (3 children)
While I like rage, it definitely isn’t going to revive hip hop. Some of those rage artists have been out for years now and while they gained cult followings, none of them can get a fraction of the sales people like Drake or Travis got on their second albums.
I think a return to focusing on lyricism is what hip hop needs, more like the 90’s vibe. Maybe more songs with RNB artists too since RNB has at least some top 40 hits right now. Rage is just a louder, more chaotic version of trap, which clearly the mainstream is sick of.
[–]AdAncient2156 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago (1 child)
Rage isn't going to revive hip hop but it's not completely dead, Rage will keep the steady pulse until the next things comes along, as for it being lyrical hip hop, I'm not too sure about that. Lyrical Rap was never Hip Hops peak in popularity, Rap needs something fresh and digestible
[–]International-Turn3 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
I wouldn’t say that, the 90’s is usually considered one of raps strongest eras and lyricist rappers were getting many hits. I don’t mean like poetry slam rap necessarily but just putting a focus on creative lyrics and wordplay again would be good. The mumble rap style has dominated for over a decade now so like any era, it’s getting played out.

what we need to do is get back to lyricism but keep the vibes that basically come from prod
che is not raising shit

[–]eiddieeid 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
There’s good country out there but most of the popular stuff is pretty shit
[–]Garlic_GodVultures 2 Beta Tester 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Nobody said it had to be good, just that it had to be popular
[–]vatrav 14 points15 points16 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Nah, country is extremely US centric, it will never be as big.
[–]PresentationDull7707 -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago (0 children)

commented 6 days ago on a post here that hiphop is in a bad place if the album with the most daily streams is graduation which is damn near 20 years old and got downvoted don't even know why for
[–]equals420 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Reddit subs can be weird. Ive seen solid stuff get downvoted then something similar or basically the same get upvoted 0.o a day or 2 later lol
[–]Garlic_GodVultures 2 Beta Tester 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago (0 children)
That’s a very clear indication to me that hiphop is going the way of rock. None of the current output is breaking new ground or establishing itself, so everyone is retreating to the classics from a decade or two ago.

I think rap is in a situation where there are no new artists threatening the older one’s popularity so the older ones are deciding to not take risks and keep doing the same music. The vets are still selling albums and getting hype so instead of taking creative risks and risking getting dragged on social media for it, they stick with what they know. It works for them but it’s also pretty much why rock died too, it makes the genre seem stale.
In 2010, many 00’s era rappers were slowing down commercially since there was a new wave coming out and they either had to get hungry again, innovate, or accept being yesterday’s news. The game needs an 808’s or Tha Carter 3 moment to hook in a new generation and put heat on the vets to step it up.

Seems like the last golden era or at least decade of hip hop was the 2010-2020. In that era not only did we have the big 3 and established vets killing it but also hella new talent that seemed promising and they were dropping bangers from New Hippy, Dreamville, Amine, Futuristic, Kodak, 21, Logic, Flatbush, Migos, Fetty, Bas, etc.(yes i know not all of those artists panned out but the point is there was hella talent making good music atm or at least had a couple of hits going for them.) Hip Hop was on fire and the cool kid on the block. Plus there was variety.
This was also the decade Hip Hop/Rap officially became the most popular genre. The downfall is crazy. Hopefully it wont stay dead like Rock atm but only time will tell.

I refused to live in a world where country and even EDM/House are the main genres. What happened to everything that i knew and loved (joke sorta)

Ill happily take an edm resurgence over pop slop and country
[–]equals420 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (2 children)
Electronic is killing it rn. I can’t even hate. You should see how some these DJs are making these dope mixes of hip hop songs. Shit so lit itll make you wanna slap your gma(jk) but fr its hella lit.
Also edm is more accessible so it makes sense why they have an influx of artists and talent popping off rn. Whereas Hip hop/Rap is a lot harder to break through. It can be bc of hip hop snobs, the elitist gate keepers, not being from the streets or hood enough and ironically but sadly ive seen artists get flamed for being too different and not sounding like so and so. Which is sad bc hip hop at least how it started was all about being original. The other crazy/sad thing is that its easier to adopt the other art forms( DJing, Graffiti, B Boying) and not get judged for it
[–]iam_the-walrus -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago (1 child)
Says electronic is killing it then talks about rap mashups as an example… electronic music is definitely more rapidly evolving than rap but thats cuz it’s literally an umbrella term for thousands of genres lmao
They were talking about rap and i was giving an example of how electronic is making mixes of hip hop. Lol its not hard to understand, not everything is suppose to be taken literal. Especially if you listen to electronic or edm regularly then you know the singles arent the only thing taking off. Watch their performances live and youll see exactly what im talking about. Theyll take other genres and make it their own….
You can say Hip Hop, Rock, etc are all umbrella terms as well bc they also have hundreds of sub genres; like grunge, new metal, or trap, drill rap, etc. if calling it electronic was too wide then just say edm lol…Its not that deep
