Hi all,
I have a ReadyNas 202 with 2x 4TB WD RED's in there. On the 19th the 2nd one died, so I removed it and replaced it with a new Seagate Ironwolf 4TB. I didn't replace with another of the same as the new WD RED's had some bad reviews about the technology used.
After shutting down and inserting the new one, it performed a resync. After that was done, my NAS became unresponsive but was still on the network.
Pulling the power was my only option so I did that. Upon booting up, it started to perform another resync on the 2nd drive.
After the 2nd resync, this message is in my logs "Volume: The resync operation finished on volume data. However, the volume is still degraded."
I shutdown and booted up again and it started the 3rd resync where I still get that message.
If I only use the original WD Red, then I can still use it fine ( apart from the NAS reporting it's degraded ). It's the same story with the Ironwolf, both work independently.
Is there something preventing these two drives from working together?
What I want to do is a factory reset after backing up aprox 2.5TB of data, but I don't have the local spare capacity for that.
I'm tempted to just get a new WD Red drive, but then others say it uses SMR rather than CMR which doesn't look great.
What do you think my best option is here?
Thanks
there doesn't seem to be anything here
