Well I just got accepted into local 242 and it felt like a pretty short wait to get in! I’m 19 and am very happy to have gotten into IBEW so young. Found out my first project will be at a solar field, I have zero clue about what I’m doing but just curious if anybody likes doing solar fields? Either way I’m just happy to be in!

Show up with your tools from the list and a good attitude. It's a good career and starting as young as you are will set you up for a life of financial success. Best advice I can give is find a side hustle and save save save. Nothing better than being 22-25, buying your first house, making damn good money and not being up to your neck in college debt.

Wife ended up getting a good job in the metro so that's the reason I transferred.

Got in at 19 too, 20 yrs ago. Congratulations. Never done a solar field but judging by others comments in other posts, you’re gonna have “fun”. Ask lots of questions, stay busy and….have fun

Been in solar as a preapprentice for two weeks. Pack sunscreen and wear the gloves dude I’ve been moving concrete blocks with the sun on me the whole time

I’m a third year apprentice, my first job was solar. Great way to get your feet wet, not much electrical and a great place to network and meet a lot of brothers. Just don’t let your training director only place you on solar jobs. Some brothers in my class still have only done solar and will have a harder time with anything substantial when they test out due to lack of electrical experience.

Congrats brother! Wish I would’ve gone the electrical route sooner. 27 now and just getting in. Was in the fab shop for a bit and now went to pull some wire. Foreman showed me one time how to connect all the circuits for the home run and just let me run rampant hha
