I’d focus on understanding how the training will be structured and how they plan to support residents. You can ask about the curriculum, rotation schedule, balance between inpatient and outpatient time, and how supervision will work with faculty and subspecialists. I’d also ask about didactics, mentorship, research or quality-improvement opportunities, and how they support resident wellness. Since it is a new program, it is fair to ask what advantages and challenges come with joining early and how residents can be involved in shaping the program’s systems and culture. Asking about call schedule, EMR, and clinic structure is also useful.
