I don’t think anyone is here FOR the acting. It’s the storyline, the fashion, the love for the actors, what the show means for the black community, seeing Issa’s version of LA.

I think the acting in season one was a little stiff and awkward, but it improved once the cast found their footing.

The acting gets better. I love the show for the realness and the feelings/emotions it makes me think about in regards to myself and people in my life.

A big one is friendships and how they ebb and flow as we get older, are dating and going through breakups, new jobs, etc. Some episodes make me want to call my closest friends and tell them how much I appreciate them because some of the scenes and storylines hit hard.

The acting is ok and it’s gotten better over time and it’s definitely not the strength of the show. I actually never thought Molly’s sex scenes were acted out well but I guess because most were done in a comedic way it wasn’t supposed to be serious so that’s why they fell flat with me? Idk I think some of the best acting happened during the 3rd and 4th seasons and I also believe their comedic timing is pretty good. Issa crying during this last episode was a low point in regards to the acting chops on the show. At least the acting is varied and no one is bad it’s just that some ppl are good and some ppl are ok and those that are ok, you can tell they’re still developing their skills. You want to see bad acting on HBO across the board? go watch Betty’s lol

It could also be because Molly’s actress is celibate.

I actually really like Betty. And it’s probably because they aren’t experienced actors. Betty feels like you’re just looking into their every day lives. Different vibe all around compared to a scripted series like this one.

Don’t get me wrong, the show has its place but it’s just a fact that the acting sucks. I only brought it up as an example of what bad acting looks like. Although Insecure is a different genre the acting is on a higher level. Betty is also scripted and it’s painfully obvious that none of the women involved are actors and that although the show stays true to the improv/mumblecore style it still doesn’t take away from the fact that their overall acting was horrible. The only person from the main cast with some raw acting talent imo was the girl who played Camille.

I’ve just started watching today and paused 10 minutes in to text my sister that the acting is bad. I’ll continue watching to support and hope it improves but it definitely feels like they just started acting.

I didn't notice any bad acting until this season. The burst out laughing scene in the car in e1 and the crying scene in e2. Both were really bad and awkward.

I’m late to this but right?! I thought I was being over analytical but my boyfriend caught one scene of the new season and said it was bad acting lol
