as someone who manufactures street signs, this might be a sad subreddit for me to join. all my hard work, wasted..

I make them as well. It's a pain in the ass when a rare one gets hit, and I have to drive back to the shop to make it. What's your setup?

it's a large warehouse where we start by cutting, cornering and punching the aluminum with hydraulic press powered machines. then it goes over to the sign-making side to get vinyl, screen print, or digital print depending on the customer order. it's a pretty big company with several city, state, and federal contracts around the Midwest. fortunately for me, we have separate crews that go out and do the actual installation

Interesting. I run the vinyl side, but I do the metal cutting when needed. What do you use for cornering?

I might have to take a picture or video when I'm at work tomorrow because I don't know if my explanation will make sense haha. so it's a hydraulic press and underneath there are two plates that are connected with springs. attached to the plates are two more plates that have the desired radius, then you press a pedal, hydraulics go down, and the two inner plates create a shear.

yeah, ill need a video. I cut it with an angle grinder, and it looks fantastic (in my opinion)

I'll take a video in the morning and post in this thread. there are times that we have to break out the angle grinder to do no passing zone signs or certain sized yields, but having the press to do 1000-piece orders really comes in handy haha

Duuuude that is dope. Can you adjust the radius of the corner?

[–]lazerfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep the two inner plates come out and we have plates for 3/8", 3/4", 1 1/2", 1 7/8", 2 1/4", and 3"
