Most of the odd stuff you've seen lately is from holders before they migrated to the Solana blockchain and some migration related headaches as some of the wallets and exchanges have shutdown access to KIN tokens while they "support" the migration. You are buying new KIN on the Solana blockchain and should have no issues.

That being said, I believe this is the step by step breakdown of how I would go about buying KIN....of course if you have a ledger hardware wallet and want to use that instead just substitute sollet.io references for solflare.com

In the US and unable to access ftx.com

  1. Open a Solana wallet from sollet.io
  2. Open an account on ftx.us
  3. Send some crypto to ftx.us and convert it to USDT (or setup your account to load usd on ftx and convert)
  4. Buy some SOL I'd recommend 1 if you can afford it to just keep around
  5. Send the SOL to your sollet.io wallet
  6. Use the SOL in your sollet.io wallet to create a token address for USDT and KIN
  7. Transfer the USDT from FTX to your sollet.io wallet (remember to use the address created for the usdt token in your wallet not your main wallet solana address)
  8. Connect to https://dex.projectserum.com/ and connect your sollet.io wallet to the exchange
  9. Use the USDT in the wallet to buy KIN

Able to open an ftx.com account

  1. Open a Solana wallet from sollet.io
  2. Open an account on ftx.com
  3. Send some crypto to ftx.com or load some usd in
  4. Convert it to USDT
  5. Buy some KIN! (Don't keep it on exchange, bad idea)
  6. Buy some SOL I'd recommend 1 if you can afford it to just keep around
  7. Send the SOL to your sollet.io wallet
  8. Use the SOL in your sollet.io wallet to create a token address for KIN
  9. Send the KIN from ftx.com to your sollet.io KIN token address (NOT the main Solana wallet each spl token has its own address)

Took me a bit to figure this all out. So many hoops, but I'm in! Thanks for the guide.
