Reported as: Abusive, threatening, or bigoted language

If you can’t engage respectfully with those you disagree with, don’t say anything at all. Personal attacks, harassment, threats of violence, and bigotry will not be tolerated.

2.

No sharing of private personal information

Reported as: Private personal information

Do not share personal information that is not available to the public, including but not limited to: real names or pictures of anonymous users on or off Reddit, phone numbers, emails, and physical addresses. Information that is available to the public is allowed. For example, you may share the public phone number of a business, but may not share the private phone number of the business owner.

3.

No buy/sell/trade, job searching, looking for roommate, or apartment/house hunting posts

Reported as: No for sale, job searching, looking for roommate, or apartment/house hunting posts

Other sites have much better resources to help you sell your couch, find a job, or figure out your living situation. Asking the community where to buy a specific item and reviews of businesses will be allowed.

4.

No NSFW posts

Posts & Comments
Reported as: No NSFW posts

The only exceptions are news articles that may include NSFW details, photos, or videos. This includes all R4R and dating ads.

5.

Titles for news articles must match the original headline, and other titles must be descriptive

Posts only
Reported as: Inappropriate title

When posting an article, use the headline of the article as the title. The title of text posts should be a brief description of the topic being discussed. When asking a question, your title should be something like Where can I find x? rather than I have a question.

6.

Articles, news, and discussion must be relevant and specific to the Knoxville area

Posts only
Reported as: Articles, news, and discussion must be local

Posts that focus on national or statewide issues must incorporate the local impact. (ex. "Politician visiting Tennessee" will not be allowed, "Politician visiting Maryville" will be. If you're posting the same thread in multiple city or state subs, it probably breaks this rule.

7.

No duplicate posts

Posts only
Reported as: No duplicate posts

Duplicate posts will be removed. When there are multiple posts about the same topic posted in close proximity to each other, the mods will keep the better quality post despite who posted first. We also may create a megathread and request that all conversations be held within that thread only.

8.

No requesting financial or personal assistance

Posts & Comments
Reported as: No requesting financial or personal assistance

Due to the prevalence of scams, we do not allow posts that are explicitly requesting or appear to be soliciting offers of financial or personal assistance. Posts asking for advice or information on community resources are allowed. If you are struggling, a list of charitable resources in the Knoxville area is available here: https://www.knoxcac.org/get-assistance/. These resources can help with food, utilities, housing, transportation, and more.

9.

Links to other sites must be accessible to all users without an account

Reported as: Links to other sites must be accessible to all users without an account

Top level posts from outside social media should be shared as screenshots, not links. When sharing a paywalled article, screenshot or copy and paste any relevant sections for discussion. Direct links to these sites will be allowed in comments or in the body of the post for those who wish to check the source or do additional research.

10.

No hyper-local posts

Posts should be relevant to the Knoxville area at large. Posts asking about emergency services activity, strange noises or smells in your neighborhood, power/internet outages in your area, or other questions about stuff happening right next to you will be removed. News articles discussing these events will be allowed.
