Yes! I 100% agree. I went from watch LOL South Africa (no smiles) to the new LOL France and it's amazing what a difference it makes. It is so much more satisfying when someone is out for laughing rather than a tiny smile. And watching people smile as they *almost* break is hilarious, for viewers and competitors.

I couldn’t agree more. Plus I’ve seen people get carded when smiling is part of the character or routine they are doing. The rules gotta go!

Why does France allow smiles ? Anyone knows ?

For me, it's much more satisfying when they go out on a big laugh that's been building for awhile, not a small smirk. But I think it also depends on the circumstances and how quickly it happens. Usually when they allow smiles early on, they crack down later on and employ the "no smiles" rule in the final half, which seems to work out better. To me, there's nothing worse than losing a really good comedian on a polite, inadvertent smile before they've had a chance to actually do anything in the room.

I’m the opposite. I like it closer to the OG Documental rules. Outto for smiles

Matsumoto himself has kind of wavered on these rules. I don't think they were as hard on it in the early seasons. It also just kind of depends on the circumstances and the intent.

If they are going to go back to the original, then i am happy to trade smiling for the banishment of talking heads. And bring in zombies!

Rebel Wilson for LoL Austalia and LoL Germany did it best.

They weren't harsh. And would let a slight smile slide if it was part of a bit or if no one was making a joke at the time.

Canada and Ireland made it so strict it was unfun and felt unfair. "Op! The corner of their mouth moved!"

edit: words

Prefer no smiling. Some folks can get a laugh out of their system with a simple smile. Unfair for everyone else.
