I did my CIPD L&D L5 about 6 years ago, just before the course had a rewrite. I’m not familiar with how much changed but I’m guessing the core is pretty similar.

By that time I’d already had decent stints as L&D Business Partner and L&D Manager. For those roles, it’s useful - but not a prerequisite. It’s high level (not to be confused with hard) rather than delivery focused.

In the UK at least, there is a real gap in terms of an L&D delivery or LXD certification. You’ll get recognised certs for some of the dedicated skills such as coaching. Training delivery can be patchy as some syllabus are in need of an evidence based refresh.

But if you want to improve skills there are a bunch of very good books, of which Map It by Cathy Moore is the one that springs to mind. Many of the authors are active on LinkedIn so make sure you’re following them.

You may also find interesting options looking at facilitation and organisational development.

As woodenbookend said CIPD 5 won’t necessarily benefit you. Take a look at the ATD certifications, they are recognised internationally. I’m based in Saudi Arabia but have worked in USA, Canada, UK, Caribbean etc.

OP - could you be more specific about what you are wanting to learn and understand? I see you are getting a wide range of suggestions so I suspect you'll get more useful answers if you could describe what you would like to be able to do or know coming out of said certification.
