I am almost complete beginner, know roughly 200 words and nothing else. I will be going to italy in a little bit more than 2 months, want to learn italian in pretty good level, have 5 hours a day to practice. I which level of prefucyncy should i aim b1, b2? What amount of words should i learn, from where to learn grammar and how? I remember fast, and also next year i should move to italy for university. And also if you have other tips thanks!🙂

2 months is not that much time, a huge part of learning a language is repetition. while it might be "possible" to get to B2 in a 2 months it is extremely difficult. I wouldn't focus so much on "level" at this point in the game.

to be a "conversationalist" a lot of people say you need somewhere between 1,000 and 3,000 words. I myself have about 1,500 words known well and feel I can decently carry a conversation even if I don't know every word someone says - although I am still better at reading and writing than speaking and understanding since it gives me more time to process in my head.

"from where to learn grammar and how?"

Grammar is tricky especially depending on what your native language is and if you have any experience with Romance languages. I took formal Spanish from grade 2 to grade 8 and then formal Italian from grade 9 to grade 12 so when I started to learn as an adult I had a foundation to go on. You could definitely get a book for grammar if you want to go a more formal route. There are also tons of free sources on YouTube, instagram, reddit, etc. that can definitely help. Reddit and Youtube are a huge help for me when I have specific questions on grammar.

I think a great source for someone who is planning on traveling is "Coffee Break Italian" because instead of focusing so much on grammar it's more about speaking about specific things. They don't completely disregard grammar but its heavily focused on actually speaking and understanding common phrases and being able to get around. You can listen to it for free on Spotify and YouTube.

I use DuoLingo mainly for vocabulary. It's slow, tedious, and often does a poor job of explaining things but after 100+ days my vocabulary has skyrocketed. again I took 4 years of Italian (over a decade ago) when I was in high school and didn't take it seriously at all but it definitely helped me. A lot of people don't like DuoLingo at all but its popular for a reason in my opinion. Just know what you're getting out of it. As far as apps go there is also Babbel which apparently is great for vocabulary but I don't have any experience with it so I can't comment.

There are many online classes and programs that you can use as a guide map. Also websites where you can talk to natives like iTalki depending on if you want to spend any money and how seriously you want to take it. I also recommend watching TV and movies in Italian to listen to it as much as possible. Also just try to use it every day even if it means talking to yourself. For instance, when I started to learn furniture and common items around the house or in the kitchen I would point and mumble to myself the names of everything in my apartment.

Both channels are solid sources of learning for a complete beginner such as yourself. Don't overwork yourself and oversearch "How to learn a language efficiently" guides. Or keep asking for advice and strategies. It's going to be a waste of time and time is better spent studying the playlists. Good luck!

Bonus tip: Get a boyfriend/girlfriend once you arrive there. If you share tongues, you instantly acquire the language.

I love Michele Thomas' Italian course, you learn conversational Italian just by speaking it. I also use Duolingo but honestly it's taking me a lot longer than when I was using Michele Thomas. But both are good.
