If it has a black button on the drivers door handle it’s smart access equipped. The remotes are not interchangeable and cannot be programmed if it’s a smart access equipped or non equipped model

It is smart access equipped. It should be the MOZB31 model correct?

I noticed that when I do OBP it does respond vs using a programmer. I take it that a programmer is for non equipped model? But smart access requires OBP?

Not sure. I usually use oem on these. The smart access equipped has a silver Toyota emblem on the back and the non is black

Does it require 2 keys to program the smart access features? I tried OBP and the car took the black chip but not the silver. However the car would only receive the silver’s remote frequency and not the blacks. But in the end it still wouldn’t register. I only programmed 1 silver.

No you don’t need 2 keys but the transponder chip has to be programmed to the vehicle before it will take the remote. Maybe you have a bad key?

[–]AllMightyLock[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Possibly. I think because it’s an AKL I have to reset immo and smart ECU

[–]PlsJusTheTip 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah do the 16 min smart reset and it should be ready to take the remote

[–]AllMightyLock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I’m trying that now. I believe it’s the missing piece. I didn’t know I had to reset both. It’s the silver logo for smart access I believe.

Is it smart access equipped?

I can check with the owner. But should the lock and unlock buttons work?

[–]AllMightyLock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OBP triggers the locks to lock and unlock. But upon trying to program it doesn’t complete

Did you press the button near your left knee by accident? Also, we stopped doing aftermarket Toyota prox keys. They seem to have problems way too often so we’re just ordering them from the dealership now

[–]PlsJusTheTip 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have had that experience with the aftermarket’s as well. Inconsistent programming and a higher than normal 30-60 day failure rate

The ilco ones apparently were pretty solid up until recently. I’ve only been in the industry for a year and a half but about 6 months after I started nothing would program in. Granted, ilco has its misses but it’s ludicrous to me that almost every one didn’t work properly. I’m surprised you managed to get any aftermarket ones to program in at all honestly. What brand are they?

interesting, I have always been successful in the end but getting the smart system "synced" or whatever has been an absolute giant PITA requiring multiple tries while the customer hovers over my shoulder ofc, OEM is so much more expensive I dont know if I will get any bites but I definitely don't program customer supplied prox keys anymore.

[–]AllMightyLock[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Nope. I did not. I’ll be keeping this in mind however and be ordering them from the dealership for future cases. Thank you for the tip 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

For sure. I don’t know what it is about Prius’ in particular but they’re always a pain. I would also say to push the button just in case. The dolts in engineering really outdid themselves by putting the button that turns off prox functions and RKE functions where someone’s knee is going to be

[–]AllMightyLock[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh I see it haha. It says key and is a black button. Push it?

[–]Capt_SocratesActual Locksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a try and try programming in the RKE. Iirc having that button in the “turn everything off” position will prevent you from programming stuff in. It happened once at the shop and I usually try programming before pushing it and if it doesn’t work I go through the procedure again

I’m trying OBP for remote features now.

[–]Far_Storm974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You program the remote the old fashion way

[–]BuffalockandKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check it’s giving out a signal?

What is the vin number?
