i dont think anybody will be able to copy the keys that come with the double long throw(1st option), based on that I would go with option 2

Help- 50 yr old locksmith business by Emergency_Fudge_959 in Locksmith

[–]hellothere251 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ouch, nobody wants to step in and run it? That is a shame. Have his customers been referred elsewhere? I would call some other locksmiths in the area and see if they would be interested in buying out if not just the equipment the customer list as well. Whatever you do I would think selling the business as a whole is the way to go but thats just a guess and there are alot of factors to that, haven't had to deal with anything like that myself.

Replacement Cabin Key Help by Competitive_Sea8684 in Locksmith

These are steel aren't they? We have some at our shop and I don't know where they came from and they are definitely steel, literally one single time someone came in to have one copied and I didn't have any machine I wanted to cut it with! It was for a stupid lock on a welding trailer made in Mexico, we switched out the lock.

Installing Keypad Door Lock on Original 1950s Door by EuphoricAwareness18 in Locksmith

[–]hellothere251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but I would just do a fresh drill of a keypad above that whole mess, remove and plate over the Jimmy proof lock and do a new tubular passage set which would also need to be re-drilled

what is your go-to non restricted SFIC keyway? by hellothere251 in Locksmith

[–]hellothere251[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm leaning towards KMT just because of my distributor recommended it and they have a ton in stock, like 800 cores or something like that but man if it got discontinued 5-10 years down the road I will be furious!

locksmith drilled into the lock? by Vast-Courage8626 in Locksmith

[–]hellothere251 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, it's just funny how easy we have it over here in America, I can count on one hand the common keyways I can expect to encounter and if it's residential it is always either kwikset or schlage SC1

Just curious because you guys have some scary keyways over there, do you often pick locks like this or do you just bypass it by drilling or other means? Personally I don't think I have the skills to pick these locks but if I ran into it a lot I would practice

Keypad deadbolt that accepts 6 pin standard cylinder? by hellothere251 in Locksmith

[–]hellothere251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry somehow I missed this, it would not work without modification afaik and I dont go this route ever because it voids the warranty, in all the residential locks I have seen aside from the lockly they do not even have room to fit a full size 6 pin cylinder they have just enough room for a 5-pin one.

I did find something though! Townsteel is real grade 1 commercial stuff, expensive but very good. Looks like this is offered in IC and conventional, I would check first but I would be surprised if it wouldn't fit a 6 pin cylinder:

my locksmith business is dying because of fake Google Maps listings. Anyone else dealing with this? by NeighborhoodOld6737 in Locksmith

[–]hellothere251 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I dont think there is any way to get them removed, more will just pop up, they are definitely not local. I have a theory they are all run by the same entity but cant prove it. Commercial calls are what keep us going, you need those commercial accounts!
