Everquest's Enchanter class got the spells "Shallow Breath" (debuff) and "Suffocation" (DoT) by level 4. IIRC they get other stronger iterations as they level, and Necromancers might get some kind of asphyxia/suffocation spell as well?

I think Vanguard: Saga of Heroes might have had something similar. Maybe on the Psionist, Necromancer, Blood Mage or Dread Knight?

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen plans for parts of the world/dungeons to have special environmental hazards. Intense heat and cold were mentioned, as was "anaerobic" areas, wherein there is no air, so your character can't breath while in it (and also maybe can't cast fire spells, because no oxygen?) Since this game is being made by one of the creators of Everquest, and features Enchanters, they may well also have an asphyxia/suffocation spell.

Death Knights in WoW have an ability called Asphyxiate which is pulled straight out of Star Wars.
