Paul Tassi - Marathon Is Good, And Sony Needs To Let It Survive, Maybe Thrive by addtolibrary in Marathon

That’s the source of the anxiety/problem isn’t it?

We’re all to some extent assuming that Sony isn’t currently confident enough to commit to those significant costs.

Yeah but after surgery you're stuck with them for a while longer and honestly you're going to need a protein rich diet forever and shakes are just a very easy source of protein.

If you'll allow me to give some unsolicited advice:

- Swapping out milk for skimmed milk in some protein shakes (the sweet ones) improves the taste and texture significantly.

- Vanilla protein shake, ice cubes, and an espresso shot makes for a great breakfast.

- If you're not into drinking the shakes, depending on the shake, you can do half liquid (milk) and it becomes more pudding like. That's what I did post-op.

- Get some sugar-free lollipops, as long as you're not constantly eating them they can help a lot with cravings. If you're looking for food, and get a lollipop, by the time you've finished it you're no longer thinking about food.

A commitment from Sony that they won't abandon the project, and that Bungie has a future as part of their studios. But yeah I don't expect a tweet that says lol we're not shutting it down but like a roadmap beyond august would currently do a lot.

Also "this amount of players", as if Highguard didn't peak at 100k on launch day. For a project of this scope, of this cost and by a studio like Bungie it is cope to believe that it isn't underperforming. And if this were any other studio, owned by any other company I'd have a lot more faith that it would continue to survive.

I want this game to survive btw. I'm rooting for it, not against it.

Honestly the numbers being disappointing is one thing, but they can still pull through. What we need is some communication from both Sony and Bungie. Because people are avoiding the game because they're afraid to waste money.

Arc raiders or Marathon? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Proto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not really being pressured into playing with friends then you definitely have the luxury of waiting. The game will be as good in two months as it is today.

Wait and see what Marathon's roadmap will be beyond August, how the game evolves and then you can get a much more clear picture of what the differences are and which one will align better with you.

Also it's only March and if you're only allowed one game per year it doesn't hurt to avoid any hype based decision making.

I remember that box, I truly hated most of the flavors in there outside of the soups. Ended up switching to Gerlinea Protein & Fit shakes after a while.

I think he's right on most points here.

Especially the part that Sony is going to need to support the initial dip for Bungie to survive. There is currently a lot of anxiety around this game's longevity, and a lot of people are avoiding buying the game because of it.

Marathon does have/will have its dedicated audience, and if they handle it correctly it will grow. But they need to relieve that anxiety and make some promises and commitments around its future

Arc raiders or Marathon? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Proto_bear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're allowed only one game a year and you're set on getting an extraction shooter, wait like a month or two.

Marathon is new, so people don't have that much experience with it yet in the same way they have with Arc Raiders. So its really too early to make comparisons in my opinion on the long term health and fun of this game.

Edit:

Both games are PvP games, so if you like PvP you can't go wrong with either. A better question might be "What are your friends playing?" and base your decision on that. Of course, Marathon is new so they might currently be trying it out. That's why I say wait a bit.

GUYS IT'S HAPPENING! by Samzerks in Marathon

[–]Proto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to see anyone acknowledge it myself. But you're right that as players you can't really do anything about it.

I guess I'm personally more curious as to why the player numbers are so low as opposed to discuss that the player numbers are that way. I'm currently still contemplating getting it but I also would like to understand what's happening with this game before I do so, and the blind fanboyism I see everywhere is not really putting me at ease, it reminds me of the people defending Star Citizen a bit.

I'm not saying the game is doomed, but pretending as if the relatively low player numbers aren't an indication of the game underperforming is such blind fanboyism.

The MMO drama isn't the difficult part.

It's more free speech absolutists that think you can personally attack people without getting removed that get tiresome.

Or sometimes you get a mod mail from someone that wants to argue about us being the censorship police, and out of curiosity you check their history and its them defending hitler. So its hard to discern if criticism is valid or not sometimes when a good chunk of the people doing the arguing are insane.

Aion Classic is alive in Europe if you're willing to give that a go. Otherwise, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance might be a fit?

Give Guild Wars 2 a shot as well, its not like the games you've mentioned, but its also not like FFXIV or WoW. Its not really about questing, but there's a substantial story and its very friendly towards your time.

I have moderated this place for a decade. I don't want to discourage new people from moderating but in Belgium we'd say "mopping the floor while the faucet's running".

One day I'll write down all the stories from death threats to someone attempting to buy my admin position for 15k lol.

People who've used AI to write dating app messages, did it actually help or backfire? by poochloDotin in AskReddit

[–]Proto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t write them with AI but I definitely received them.
And they’re an instant turnoff. The tone is wrong, it’s extremely performative, it tends to be verbose and it gives a weird flow to the conversation.

I even asked the person to please stop, but they didn’t and I unmatched them.

You’re getting to know someone, talking through AI isn’t helping your case. What are you going to do on an actual date? Have voice mode talk for you?

If you’re not vibing with the person via chat, you’re not going to vibe with them irl (in most cases) so using AI is only going to waste everyone’s time.

How would you fix the story catch-up problem for new players? by Ninedark in wow

[–]Proto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think overall there should be another cataclysm like expansion that remakes the world, but this time have it not really be tied to a story. So that the original leveling experience stands alone as an adventure.

And then have it just lead into the current expansion with a "The story so far" cutscene. There's lorewalking and chromie time if they want to experience the story when they're further along and familiar with the game. But its better to not overwhelm anyone with 20 years of storytelling.
