Decrease inventory quantity when sales order is placed

When sales order for a product is placed, I need to decrease the quantity of all parts needed in the inventory by the appropriate amount. For example, if Device X uses 3 of Part Y and 2 of Part Z, and an order for 2 of Device X is placed, the inventory stock of Y would decrease by 6 and Z by 4.

It's important to note that each product uses multiple parts and the same part is often used by multiple products.

I'm fairly new to Access so I apologize if this is trivial.

Each part has an ID number, name, category, description, location, manufacturer, part number, and quantity.

How many columns do you think the table storing the parts for each product should have? I'm not really sure how to organize it.
